Hey fellow nursing students or nurses,
I am struggling with which NCLEX prep course to go with. Hurst came to our class and gave a presentation but I am skeptical about paying $350 for a book that will go over content we are taught anyways. Please tell me your experience with which you used. Also, when should I start to study for the NCLEX? I heard 2 weeks prior to testing would be just fine.
It's hard to say what works for me in school. I am very unhappy with my program and the teachers aren't the best at writing questions. I am in my third semester, graduate in December, and can say I've only really learned a lot my second semester and had great teachers to thank for that.
Any help, questions, or suggestions from you would be great!

I know this will sound like heresy, especially to the people who are always describing themselves as "terrified," but you know what? Most people do not take any review course at all, and the pass rate for NCLEX nationwide is somewhere north of 90%.
Well initially, I thought to myself I can study on my own and I don't need a review course. But with Hurst and Kaplan coming to our class and giving their presentation, it makes me nervous to study on my own.
I feel that the review courses charge so much because they know people will pay the price to be "guaranteed" to pass. Thanks for your comment. I have plenty of time to think about it, I'm just curious what all others think. I may just study on my own this summer going over all the content learned up to that point.

Of course they scared you... They want you to take the class! You will need to prepare for the nclex but that doesn't mean you need to drop $350. You can purchase LearningEXT.com or NCLEX10000 for much less... I took hurst and felt it was too easy/basic.... Everything we went over I already knew. I didn't look at the book once after the course. The course was only good to force me to study for 3 days straight and for the practice tests.... but the fact that they guarantee you pass made me feel a lot better.

Hi Sbern9886,
I studied with Hurst Online review, Saunders Q and A, and LaCharity's Priority and Delegation book. I liked Hurst because it broke down the material and helped me to think more critically. Saunders Q and A book really helped. I just made sure I did a lot of Analyzing-type questions. And the LaCharity book was good for those prioritization questions.
