Which MCCCD ADN Waitlist

There isn't really one Maricopa College that has a shorter waiting list than the other. When you apply, you are placed in a pool for that specific application week that you turned your application in. Once the application week is up, you are radomly placed in a position out of that pool. Then you will be able to select up to 5 choices of schools you would like to go to. 1 being your first choice, 5 being your last.

Right now there are about 1000 people awaiting placement. They just placed Fall 07 and took about 400 people, so that means there is at least a year wait. If you apply now, there will be 1000 people ahead of you. I'm sure after application week there will be at least 1200 waiting which would mean a 3 semester wait. I just found out recently that I'll be waiting until Spring 08. That would make 2 semesters for me.

I'm not sure if this is entirely correct but this what I came up with. If anyone else has their ideas on the placement system, feel free to add.

Multi, do you have your CNA license? If you do, you might want to check out Gateway's LPN FastTrack. I did a write up on it a few months back -- do a search in this forum and you should find it. Another one to check into if you have your CNA would be Central Arizona College in Coolidge. Closer to you too, I would think.

Otherwise, I know Mesa Boswell is said to have the shortest wait list. I believe that's out in Sun City though, which is far West Valley. Don't know what Mesa's list is like, but when I was in the hospital (patient, Banner Baywood in Mesa) last month I had a student nurse from MCC. She was in Block 2 and said it was only a one semester wait for her.

Keep in mind too that even though the wait list looks horrendous, a lot of those people move on to other colleges, or decide against nursing, or move out of Arizona completely (we are a highly transient state -- people always coming and going).

Hi there AZmom!

No, I don't have a CNA license. I shlep away selling insurance part-time while I'm a full-time student.

Interesting about Mesa Boswell. I'm not picky about which school since I'm moving there just for this. (Although if one program has a bad rep for one reason or another I'd steer clear). I'd love PM's about this, too!

I would rather do the accelerated through Scottsdale or Phoenix College, but it's not critical. Also, I haven't been able to get answers about when those accelerated programs start each year. I haven't gotten replies to my emails.

If your not open to attending ANY of the schools then your wait could be longer- You have to pick 5 you are Ok with and go from there...Central Az College also has a wait list and you need your CNA first.. I'd attend any of the programs really, except for a part-time one.

CAC obtained a new director Fall 06. With that change came a change to their program. Beginning Spring 07, they went from only offerring start dates in the Fall of each year to offerring start dates in the Fall AND Spring.

In addition, in a letter to me dated late last Fall from CAC's nursing department, it was explicitly noted that they will NOT maintain a wait list. You either get in, or you don't. Their selection criteria hadn't yet been fully hammered out, but from the letter and what the advisor told me, GPA, number of courses completed, testing scores (HESI I believe), essay, and interview were factors.

CAC does, however, require a CNA license.

I would check out Boswell. Since you're moving here, you could find a place to live close by. Lots of hospitals and lots patients out there. Sounds like to me that Boswell is the least favored because most folks don't live out there and it would be a commute.

I'm at Phoenix College and am enjoying it. It has it's ups and downs but overall I believe that I'll get trained sufficiently to pass the NCLEX and be a functional nurse at the end. I guess that's really all of us want at the end of all of this, right?

BTW: I had a one semester wait (started Jan '06) and Phx College was my 4th choice.

I'm thinking Sun City sounds like our Green Valley here in Tucson. You know - about 45 minutes from the city...smaller senior citizen community. Sounds fine to me! I wouldn't mind living around elderly people for two years. If I get bored I could just drive into Phx.

What I'm learning from you all helping me here, is that I need to be flexible and just go where I'm accepted within MCCCD. I appreciate the info.
