Which hospitals in NYC hire associate degree grads

U.S.A. New York

most want BS, im so frustrated :(

....with a year experience in acute care setting, many will hire you.

Hi again, continued post revival. I have a B.S. in Psych and will have my ADN in May 2018 and am worried about the prospects- I was told that if I already had a Baccalaureate degree and was planning to pursue my Master's right after, I wouldn't have any problems.

However, I chatted online with the HR reps at a couple of hospitals and they said I wouldn't be eligible until I *had* my BSN, either.

Have any of you worked with or been new grads/new hires with people who don't have a BSN, but are RNs who have another Bachelor's?

Thanks so much!

Specializes in CTICU.

Not a single person in my graduating class of May ‘17 got a hospital job as an ASN in NY, Including a few with YEARS of LPN experience. A few of us were lucky enough to get inpatient rehab positions, but I don't know anyone that managed to get into the hospitals regardless of having a bachelors degree in another subject and regardless of already being enrolled in a BSN program. Two got hospital jobs in FL. If you have Acute care experience you'll have a better chance, but NYC standard seems to be BSN now.

It has been discussed at great length in other forums and in the NYC; a BS degree in another subject plus an ADN does not equal a BSN. Nearly all hospitals who require a BSN want just that; a four year *nursing* major degree.

Yes, every now and then you hear of someone squeaking by; but those are outliers; for nearly everyone is things are what they are.

Making matters worse NYC is awash in BSN and ADN graduates at a time when hospital inpatient beds are shrinking.

Since 2003 sixteen (16) full service hospitals have closed in New York City. Number *17* is happening now as Mount Sinai shuts down Beth Israel in preparation to redevelop that medical center into a *much* smaller hospital, an urgent care facility and assorted satellite clinics. Mount Sinai promised current nursing staff there wouldn't be layoffs and would be accommodated elsewhere in system. However am hearing a good number of staff are simply looking elsewhere for jobs. So once again new graduates are entering a market go up against experienced RNs for scarce openings.

When you say someone told you that having your Baccalaureate degree and going right for your masters wouldn't be a "problem" understood the four year degree was not in nursing?

In any event try not to stress over things much. Best thing right now is to concentrate on your final time in nursing school, graduate and pass the boards. Once you have that license then you can see what there is while you start your BSN bridge course.

Jamaica Hospital and Flushing Hospital hire nurses with associate degrees.

Recent ADN grad doing my BSN now. Not a single person in my cohort got a hospital job. Several got LTC jobs some of which only gave them 1.5 weeks of training and then gave them an entire night shift alone. One or two others have temp camp jobs for the summer hoping that they'll be able to parlay that into another job. We have a couple of students who are PCAs and they were hoping to move up, but even as an internal transfer they're getting the BSN only cold shoulder. At this point I'm just focusing on finishing the BSN as quickly as I can so I can get a job that I want, and receive actual training for.
