  1. Hello, wise nurse community! I have a B.S. in Psych and will have my ADN in May 2018 and am worried about my prospects- I was told that if I already had a Baccalaureate degree and was planning to pursue my Master's right after, I wouldn't have any problems. However, I chatted online with the HR reps at a couple of hospitals and they said I wouldn't be competitive until I *had* my BSN, either. Have any of you worked with or been new grads/new hires with people who don't have a BSN, but are RNs who have another Bachelor's? Some of the home care services boast high wages, but is it still better to work in a hospital, or private office? Thanks so much!
  2. Hi again, continued post revival. I have a B.S. in Psych and will have my ADN in May 2018 and am worried about the prospects- I was told that if I already had a Baccalaureate degree and was planning to pursue my Master's right after, I wouldn't have any problems. However, I chatted online with the HR reps at a couple of hospitals and they said I wouldn't be eligible until I *had* my BSN, either. Have any of you worked with or been new grads/new hires with people who don't have a BSN, but are RNs who have another Bachelor's? Thanks so much!

Malaz- Do you find that grads from your program are able to find jobs as RNs after graduation, despite not having the BSN? My ASN program is offering an accelerated option where we can take the BSN classes at the same time as our ASN classes, but like you, I was hoping to be able to wait and do them while working my first year as an RN. I also have a previous bachelors... Thank you!
  4. So, I know I'm a little late to this party, but where did you find the externships listed/what's the application period, usually? Does your role differ from a student nursing position or nursing attendant position? Thanks!
  5. Hi there, I know this was a while back, but I'm curious about the "second meeting"? I'll be working out of state for part of the summer and flying back for orientation if I am accepted, and like to plan ahead :). About how long after orientation was it, and what did they go over? Do you know if that's something that still applies? Thanks!
  6. Congratulations! Are there waves of interview emails, or was it just the one that goes out to everyone? I applied too, and have been checking my email every ten seconds for weeks, just in case. I'm wholeheartedly hoping that it wasn't one blast...
  7. I applied to the ABSN program... the email I received says, "All the applications for the Accelerated Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing program will be forwarded to the reviewing committee mid-February and decision letters will be mailed late March/early April." hope that helps
  8. Hi there! I'm in the same boat- was trying to apply for fall 2010, but the prereqs offered at my school were bumped back, and now I'm finishing them this semester. It's really frustrating, because it seems that because of the whole DNP-2015 health care reform business going on, I now have to rush. Debating whether to start an accelerated BSN in Spring 2011 or still try to find a Direct Entry Master's! A lot of the Direct Entry programs (where they're still being offered- a few of my top choices aren't offering these accelerated BSN/MSNs after this year) want you to have at least a year exp. after the BSN/NCLEX portion before starting the master's. I'm devoted to figuring this out, and completing a program- but I want to get started!! Let us know what you find! And any advice is appreciated!
  9. Thank you guys so much, this board is salvation in wifi haha... I really really appreciate all of your responses. Speaking to someone today to register for the prereqs there, and getting excited again! :)
  10. Actually, their deadline was yesterday, haha... I think my new plan is just to take the prereqs at Regis and see how it goes and how their "teaching" style is, and if it's bearable just enter the program in the fall there. If not, I can use those prereqs and my GRE score, and hopefully some good recs from there, to apply to BC for the following year- I'd be losing a year, but it might be the best option. Are a lot of the accelerated programs this professor-distant, I wonder?
  11. BC is probably ridiculously difficult to be admitted to though, right? This seemed to be the best of all worlds, until I got to actual students' opinions. At the end of the day, though, we all pay tuition for a stamp on our life histories- I could go learn whatever I wanted at the library, short of lab experiences. I am definitely going to get started in my prereqs- registering for January classes. I'm a little disheartened by the reviews I've found of the actual program though- why did you choose Regis? Do you think it would be even more of a long shot to attempt this at BC?
  12. Hey Lalle- I really appreciate your response. I guess I got my heart set on it because I spoke to the Grad Admissions director and she said I could take the prereqs there over the year and they would count toward my admission, and would also behoove me because I could get progress reports that would positively supplement my application over next semester. I just want to get in, and do well somewhere- I feel like I don't have time or the background to apply to the others (BC, MGH, Simmons)... I think I'd be pretty much ignored for not having done the prereqs and having been out of school for three years already, with a non-stellar GPA in undergrad. You're right, I did do ethics and stats, so I'm covered there- and also human development, which I don't remember if they require. I just want to get on the boat as soon as possible so that I can officially start in the fall. I figured this was the only place I could pull that off. I'm not afraid of the work, but I am afraid of twiddling my thumbs for another year after I do the prereqs this year... Thoughts???
  13. Hey there- I found this post interesting on a few different levels. Since you have quite a bit of firsthand experience with the school and its processes, I have a few tactical questions for you! I have a BS in Psych but have been out of school for a few years and need all of the prereqs with the exception of Development, which I took in UG- Is there any way I can complete these before the fall deadline next year? Also, would they even take someone like me, if I am able to speak to enough people one-on-one maybe? I have my heart set on completing this program and would give anything to be back in school- I would do very well if I got in, but it's the getting there I'm concerned about. I don't think I would have gone through enough of my prereqs to even give a positive progress support by the middle of next semester, and I don't want to wait that long. Any advice?? I know that rambled quite a bit, but I'm grateful for any suggestions.
  14. Hey there- I don't really have a response for you, but I am in the exact same boat- keep in touch! Are there any reputable programs you've found that are less than 100k? What's your background? I have a BS in Psych and am looking into the same programs...
  15. Hey all- I am very interested in these stats as well- the websites all say one thing, but I'd like to know the reality of that- any thoughts? I'm coming from a BS in Psych background and I've been out of school for a couple of years- determined but apprehensive about what my admissions chances are anywhere. I'd really appreciate your input- thanks!!
