Hello everyone. I have been looking for thread regarding studying nursing in the Philippines or here.Which one is better? Any suggestions? I am thinking (i dont know if i am right) its cheaper to study in the Philippines and plus the fact that i can only finished it in 2 years. My problem is how can i apply for NCLEX and what are the requirements. Do i need to take CFGNS? TOEFL? and any other exams before taking NCLEX here? I live here in florida. And if i study nursing here, can anyone tell me what school is good and who offer grants and stuff like that. How long is the waiting time? Can i work in some hospitals while studying? Pls. tell me what are the pros and cons of studying here and in the Philippines. Thank you so much for all the help.

Nursing will not take 2 years in the Philippines, there are talks on it increasing to 5 years from 4. If you do your nurse training outside of the US you will always have to meet foreign nurse requirements which vary from state to state. If looking at doing your training in Florida then I would suggest checking the Florida state forum and asking questions there.

If you are planning on nursing in the US then I would say it is probably better to train in the US

I would think that it would be better to study nursing in the country that you will be working in.

Exactly!

Big con: allways regarded as foreign educated, registration process longer and complicated, not able to work for several months after finishing education, nursing education probably not equivalent, leads to more problems regarding orientation time, finding employer, even when teaching is in english environment is not, may lead to loss in language ability and so on

Only pro: maybe cheaper?

I would never consider getting nursing education in a different country that you'll be working in, except in case the nursing education is better, what in this case is certainly not.

More important for you to consider is the fact that Florida requires the CES report. And that requires that one has attained first level professional nurse training or status in the country where they have trained. The two year programs there are not accepted for licensure in the Philippines and do not meet their professional nurse standards, so anyplace that the CES report is needed will not work in the US as a start.

Licensure and immigration are two different things. You would have to meet the requirements for the foreign trained nurse and the training that you are considering will not meet the requirements for Florida.

Suggest that you look at going to school in the US and this will meet the requirements for the US.

I think you will get a better nursing education in Philippines, but will have to go to school for 4 solid years if not longer.

I would find a 2 year program in USA, and do my best to get in a USA educated program since you are probably an American Citizen.

I agree that you would get the best education in Philippines for working in the Philippines. In the US you will get the best education for working in the USA. If money is an issue you can get you LPN ( one year) and then work while you get your RN.

Now it takes 5 years to get a BSN in the Philippines. So it is quicker in the USA.

One last point, in life I have found you get what you pay for.

I need to ask you why you think that the training in the Philippines is better than the US when you have never attended nursing school or worked with American-trained nurses in the world of nursing?

There is already so much documented about issues with the Philippine programs in general now as well as their lack of clinical skills. So what are you using to base your statement on?

Remember that in no other country but the Philippines will you actually see clinical instructors that have never worked one day of their career as an RN, but they are teaching clinical skills to others. Not acceptable behavior in any other country.

I think B.S.N. in the Philippines will be five years soon. Just follow your heart and make sure that your Nursing program is a legitimate one.

With some US nursing graduates being unable to find a job in the US, and with the bad economy at present, I don't think that having a sky-high student loan in the US is a great idea. (And even if the student loan wasn't that much, how can you pay for it if you can't find a job?)

I also believe that it's better to study there.Yes,it's cheaper here in the philippines, but i think you'll have bigger opportunity if you finished you nursing course in the states. =)

If you want a BSN go to Philippines.

If you want a 2 years degree stay in USA.
