Where do you prefer to study at night?

Our house is pretty small so there's really no where I can go and study that is quiet. I live over an hour from campus so I'm not able to go back to study. The local library closes at 5:30 pm every day but Mondays which is my late school night anyways. We also live in a small town so there aren't any late night diners or coffee houses. Does anyone have any suggestions? All ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I have come across this problem on occasion (depending where I live at the time). Why not just stay on Campus until you are done studying, and then make the commute home?

Is there another school campus that's close by? At my college we get a lot of students from other schools using our computer lab or study areas.

If you have to make space in your house, maybe you can rearrange your bedroom and make a "new" study space, that way in your mind you already address that specified area as a serious area and just make sure you are free of distractions, in that room or in that area.

Sometimes we have to make do with what he have, and I have learned to ignore my husband's football (and other tv comments), my dog jumping on me and my kids fighting and crying...although I'd rather have my own personal space!

Why not see if you could find someone who is looking for a study partner who has more quiet space at their home than you have?

I usually get my best studying done at Barnes and Noble, the library, and my car. Sometimes I can study in the garage (we have it set up like a lounge for the kids.)

Barnes and Noble

I have set up a fully wired for lighting tent in my backyard for peaceful late night study sessions. Its nice.

I know this is a huge negative where studying is concerned, but I ALWAYS study in my room while sitting on my bed. I have since I have been in college and for some reason, it works for me. I find that if I am out or at the library or something...I get distracted and people watch rather than read, so it is just a waste of my time.

It depends what I am studying. I am an auditory/ kinestetic learner with certain subjects, so I read aloud to myself. Usually I read my books aloud to my kids while they are playing. Or I read while running on the treadmill. Then for other subjects I need background noise, so I usually go to my old job ( a restaurant) and study. They don't care how long I stay there and study. Plus the free coffee and food they offer me is nice!

That is what I do too. I have always heard that it is not a good idea to study in bed, that you actually should not do anything in your bedroom except for sleep, or whatever you do with a loved one :loveya: but I have not found it to be a problem. My DH and I are currently living with my in-laws to save some cash :trout:, so the bedroom is the quitest place. I just can't seem to study much at the library but I do it every now and then. I like to people watch too!!!

Any suggestions on studying with two small kids. I have a 1yr and a very active 2 y/o. A hubby who works 60hr a week and no family to drop my kids with. I am a stay at home mom so I do it all. By the time bed times comes for the kids 2 or more cups of coffee can't keep me up. I don't know what to do any suggestions??? I study well at the library but it closes at 9pm and by the time I have the kids in bed it is close to 9pm. My husband doesn;t get home until after 7pm and trying to get home sooner but at times it's 730pm and he is still not home. I am ready to pull my hair out. Please any suggestions would help. I need a miracle. I am not in nursing school by the way. Been there done that but I am taking up classes toward my master program and it's hard with kids. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I did nursings school with no babies and what a difference but what do I do know that I am a mom and still want to advance my career. any advice please!:uhoh21:

The local coffe shop has worked for me in the past.

I NEVER study in the house. With a 5 yr old and a 15 yr old, a hubby, 2 cats and 2 dogs, it is NEVER quiet in my house.

I grab my coffee, books, a snack and head into the garage. No one tends to follow me out there..ya never know what kind of creepy crawlys might be in there LOL.

I get my best studying done in the garage, wrote my best papers in there and churned out the best care plans LOL.

My second place is to grab my "cheat sheet notes" and head up to bed when the little one is down for the night, the animals have totally exhausted themselves and the hubby and older dtr are on the laptops. I've noticed that if I fall asleep while studying, I get my best grades. I notice I tend to dream about the notes I was reading before falling asleep. Works for me.
