Where are nursing jobs?

Nurses General Nursing

I have heard eastern Oregon has a crisis of a shortage, due to the far-flung rural location. I heard some astounding numbers of nurses that are needed. Also, in here, Detroit sounds ripe- if you can dig that climate.

If you are unemployed, the monkey goes away. If you're in a commune, and don't need to work, monkey stays away. Or work a day or so a month, and monkey only will eat 10% of your disposable income. That's my plan.

Northern CA looks good- 1/3 of the economy of Mendocino County is marijuana- if that grows that well there, vegetables and flowers must, also.

Northern CA looks good for the farming and yard chickens aspect, but not for nursing - I'm commuting 3 hours one-way to work. I'd avoid CA at all costs.

Even better, then- NO nursing! But tell us about your drive, I find it hard to believe.

here in eastern nc new grads start off with about 20.50 an hour.

Without making myself stalkable, here are the details on the drive - my husband works in one major CA city, and our home is there. I work in another that's three hours away. Once a week, I drive to Major City II, work three shifts in a row, and drive home. I rent a room there, so it's not like I'm driving six hours a day, which would be insane. It's not the easiest - I miss coming home and sleeping in my own bed, and when my husband travels for work there are stretches where we don't see each other for a few weeks at a time - but my hospital is great, I'm learning a lot at my job, and for now, we're managing.

That said - I'm discovering that my situation here isn't entirely unusual - there are at least two more people at my hospital doing the same thing, and I think that speaks to the CA job market.

Yikes. But at least it's not daily- people in Seattle do that every DAY!

No the island dwellers, by the time they get to dock, board, cross, undock, then sit on the 5 for two hours, it'a three hour trek. They even pack coolers with food so they have entertainment.

Ah, that's true. I'm fixin to move to the Seattle area...I love it..and can't wait to get out of this Hell hole I am in now...which happens to be Florida....

You, know, the 3 hour wait would be worth it to me right about now...

Actually, looking to go somewhere little south of city proper.

Nothing as hellsih as FL, eh? I lived downtown Clearwater- it's trash, heroin, and scientology zombies. And suffocating humid moldy air.

LOL I'm from Oregon and went to PN school in Central Oregon. Have you LOOKED at a map of Eastern Oregon? There's signs out there that say last stop for gas...and that's not a suggestion, it's a pretty empty but very beautiful part of the state it's not just rural it's remote. But I very much doubt there is a shortage of nurses in Eastern Oregon, UO has a satellite branch for their BSN program in LaGrande - the largest "burg" in Eastern Oregon and Oregon has a ton of ADN programs too. Many many people would give their eye teeth to live in some of those areas due to the natural beauty, hunting, fishing, skiing, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. There are only 2 small hospitals in Eastern Oregon, LaGrande and John Day, oh there is also a tiny one in Lakeview but that might be considered Central Oregon. There are a few rural clinics but that's about it.

Central Oregon has several more small hospitals, however, their ADN program has been around for ever (it used to be my PN program and I graduated in '72).

No offense but I think you were mis-led about the shortage in Eastern Oregon.

THis made me laugh...I am on the other coast.

We have a little more "class"...but we still have suffocating humid moldy air!!! At least we have the real ocean.

and how could you tell you were in "downtown" Clearwater????

(I ask this b/c I have been there)
