Just wondering where you all are located and what VISN are you in?
I'm located at the NJ Health Care Systems in East Orange/Lyons, NJ, VISN 3.

Hey NightOwl which campus? I'm at Lyons with Titania but on evenings. I've read they are building two more hospitals, one in Orlando and one in Las Vegas (I believe they are dedicating that one to Elvis ... with a new gastroenterology unit called the GI Blues)
I'd like to find a nice acute psych unit someplace like Maryland or North Carolina or that general area ... feeling the urge to move about ... it will probably go away because VISN 3 pays well and I'll eventually come to my senses

A VISN means Veterans Integrated Service Network. It is a group of VA hospitals that are geographically located close to each other and are grouped together in order to provide a more comprehensive service network for the veterans. I am not sure how many VISN's there are, but there are a lot.
In my VISN - we are the open heart hospital for the VISN. Other hospitals focus on other specialties. Veterans can be assured that services are available within their geographical area as each hospital specializes in something. Hope that answers your question.
Okay, well I was just wondering because I am starting a new appt for the MO Vet home in Warrensburg tomorrow, I'm very excited about it............
Congratulations and good luck. Love the VA - one of the best career moves I have made. Good luck and I am sure you will like it. :balloons:
:rotfl: The best way I can explain it is that it it is the headquarters for about 5 or 6 hospitals. I don't know what the actual abreviation stands for.:balloons:
We get patients from Warrensburg Veterans Home frequently, when they require treatment of one sort or the other. :)
First day of orientation and I am going to LOVE this place.........didn't really understand the true impact of what VA nursing is all about, but today in orientation it hit me, the staff there is so enthusiastic about taking care of our Veteran's, and we should be..........truly gonna love this job, I can feel it.....
PLUS, I was starting out in an HNI position, there was nothing else open, no benefits, but good pay. I noticed on the bid board there was a FT noc position and no bids on it, I got that position today. I am so happy this saves on babysitting and will be so much easier for me, I love noc's............Plus I'm eligible for all of the benefits now

Congratulations! I have been with the VA here in Asheville for a little over 5 months now and really love it. I think the best part of being here, aside from caring for the veterans, is the nursing staff. They are some great nurses here and really make you feel like you are a part of the family. I am sure I will be with the VA for many years!
Good luck with your new position and welcome to the VA!
