Representing the Michael E. DeBakey VAMC here in Houston Texas. I think that it is VISN 16. Just transfered from VISN 7 in Montgomery, AL.

VISN 6, Fayetteville NC....and another night person!
Oh, thank God I saw your post. I wish to work with the VAMC. I have needed some first hand information on the VAMC at Fayetteville, NC. Would you mind terribly sharing about what it is like working there, and whether you would recommend it? I spoke to a recruiter there, and he told me they have continuos openings. Also that there is a $5000 sign on bonus. Sounds as if they need nurses pretty badly. Please share your experience. Thanks.

Gosh hhendu, I'm sorry I didn't see your post sooner, I was on leave for a while, then just waaaaay behind.
Don't know how long ago it was you talked to the recruiter, but I can tell you we're shorter than I can ever remember. There are a few openings in the clinics, but the long term care floors are super short.
Almost all of the new folks we've gotten leave during or right after orientation. Most of the RNs here now are the old timers, getting ready to retire. I've been here 14 years, and will be gone in a year or so...or at least part-time.
Let me know if you're still interested (or if you're working here yet)!

I sure am still interested. I have to get some things in order, though, before I can decide when. Thanks for your response.

First day of orientation and I am going to LOVE this place.........didn't really understand the true impact of what VA nursing is all about, but today in orientation it hit me, the staff there is so enthusiastic about taking care of our Veteran's, and we should be..........truly gonna love this job, I can feel it.....PLUS, I was starting out in an HNI position, there was nothing else open, no benefits, but good pay. I noticed on the bid board there was a FT noc position and no bids on it, I got that position today. I am so happy this saves on babysitting and will be so much easier for me, I love noc's............Plus I'm eligible for all of the benefits now
