Yes I have. She was and RN and I am just a clerk but I reported her to my supervisor and her nurse manager because she was LAUGHING and cracking up in a patients room during a code. The patients family was right outside the curtin listening to her cut up. I was SO mad! She told her surpervisor she was trying to "lighten things up" I am glad that she is gone.

LPNguy- I know how you feel....I thought I wanted to work in Human Resources for some big company. Had 6 classes left to get my degree in psychology at a private university and I decided that I HATED working in an office and I did not want to do this the rest of my life. I have over $20,000 in student loans to pay off now because of this. Now I`m trying to get into nursing school because I know this is my passion, it`s what I have wanted to do since I was little and I let a scary Chemistry porfessor talk me out of trying to be a nurse!

I would agree....to many I`s. Just to make sureIunderstand Is this an essay about why you want to become an LPN? There were not any specific questions that they wanted you to answer in the essay? I just finished my essay for nursing school and they specifically asked us include what stimulated a career in nursing and what attribuites we have that would enhanse a career in nursing. There was no word limit on my essay but I have included it below.... GOOD LUCK! My experiences in a health care environment stimulated my interest in a nursing career. In high school, I volunteered as a candy striper at a local hospital. While growing up several of my friends parents were nurses. The flexibility of their schedules worked well for their family units. Also, my work at the Veterans Hospital since August 1999 has demonstrated the flexibility and diverse opportunities in nursing. For the past four years I have worked as a ward clerk in the Intensive Care Unit. My experiences working with the ICU staff has reinforced my belief that nursing is a noble profession - the very core of healthcare. I personally admire nurses because they provide physical care for their patients while also serving as liaisons and patient advocates. I have observed nurses providing emotional support through counseling both their patients and their patient's families, as well as offering information regarding community resources. I feel I possess the attributes to enhance my career in nursing. In recent years I have had a passion for learning especially in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and disease. Often I research an unfamiliar diagnosis and the medical terminology associated with those diseases. This research helps me to work as an integral part of the health care team further enhancing patient care. I am known to take initiative, work hard, and face challenges. While working as an Insurance Clerk at the Veterans Hospital, I have empathized with the patients frustrations regarding billing problems, and I have served as a patient advocate to get their problem corrected. This required good communication and problem solving skills, initiative, and resolve on my part. My attributes motivate me to seek a career in nursing helping others where my daily work will be part of my personal gratification. A career in nursing would allow me to use my personal attributes and meet my career goals. I am seeking a career with diverse opportunities and the flexibility to provide for a family. A nursing career will allow me to develop as a human being and have the legacy of caring for others.

If you are wanting to get a sleep study done I think you should still check with your doctor about getting one anyways. Where I work PRN I schedule sleep studies for the daytime all the time for those patients that work a 2nd or 3rd shift job. Your local facility may have this as an option for you as well. As for my advise on sleeping....I have learned not to eat anything 4 hrs prior to me wanting to go to sleep, on evenings I feel a bit wired I take a benardyl about 1 hr before I go home especially if I know I have to be up early for my other job or class. I also use chamomile or peppermint tea to help calm me down and I sleep with a fan on year round to drown out some outside noise. Good luck, you know your body and will find something that works. I finially did!!

I like working for the VA they pay well and the benifits are good too. If I get the privilege of becoming a nurse I would like to work here in the ICU. Actually a friend of mine came to the Topeka VA to work in ICU with 2 years expierence as an ER nurse at a VA in Washington she left here making about $26 (plus her evening and weekend diff) and went to St Francis ICU making $20 day shift. The VA has paid for all of my nursing school pre reqs and they told me that they`d pay for nursing school too....Can`t beat it! I consider it a great honor to work for and with veterans who helped defend my freedom.

I work full time a at the Veterans hopspitial and I work PRN at Saint Francis Hospitial both in Topeka. I am taking my last pre req for nursing school and I have applied for the Spring 07 semester to Baker. At the VA I am a medical support assistant (goverment term for a ward clerk) for the ICU, Med Surge and Infectious disease wards and at St Francis I work in Centralized scheduling.

I am hoping to get an interview at Baker School of Nursing. I applied for the Spring 07 semester. I was just wondering if anyone has been throught the process and could give me advice on what to expect. Thanks!

I if you have your CNA then you can work at a hospitial doing that, my other suggestions are in the lab as a phlebotomist, or as a ward secretary. I am a ward clerk AKA ward seccretary. I have had A LOT of experiences and made a lot of really good connections. I too am interested in working in ICU here at my hospitial and the 3 recomendtions that I sent in along with my nursing school application were all 3 ICU nurses! GOOD LUCK!

I work a full time job (as a ward clerk) 4-midnight and I work a PRN job 2-3 days a week. I usually take 2 or 3 classes a semester. But I just needed my sciences (Micro, A & P and BIO), math (College Algerbra and Statistice), speech, and developmental psychology class to finish my pre reqs. I only have statitics left. I don`t have much of a choice really, I have to work full time in order to be 100% reimbursed for nursing school where I work (Veterns Hospitial) and I an working a PRN job so that I can pay off current debt so I won`t have so much to worry about when I am in nursing school. I am blesses because I am also getting my prerequs paid for by my employeer and I am allowed to do school work while things are quiet during my shift.

J- You wouldn`t need to find a different job necessarily. If your place of business is open longer than 9-5 you might see if you would be able to switch shifts to accommodate your school schedule. That`s what I ended up doing and I got a pay increase too! :) I work 2nd shift 4-midnight and it fits my school schedule just great. Good Luck! Faith

Freeking out I actually e-mailed one of the admissions people and I was told the same information that you just posted. I know that there will be pretty much NO way that I`ll get into Baker my first time to apply. I can only hope that I`ll not have to wait to many semesters to get in or I`ll have to start looking elsewhere.

mrsGMC- Is the waiting list to get into Baker really that big? Baker is the ONLY school that I am wanting to attend. (I had a REALLY bad, BAD experience with Washburn`s Nursing program :angryfire ) I still have 9 classes that I have to take before I can apply. So, that makes me nervous if I have to wait forever especially since my employer has agreed to pay for nursing school!

I am in Kansas at a Federal facility....I work irregular tours, some holidays, and some weekends. My average amount per hour is $14.
