Where do you get your textbooks for cheap? :)

Published

Hello everyone!!

I just got the list of books I need for the Fall 09 term. I am about to go berserk because just by looking at the prices of the books I need. I need to pay around $450-$500 and I am not even full time lol. I usually trust Amazon to buy stuff but I see that the books I need are muuuch more expensive on there than what is listed on my books list. -_____-;;; Where do you buy your books? I went to half.com, too and couldn't find the AP books I need. Ahhh! (But I am sure the other books are on there.)

I can't find "A & P REVEALED WORKBOOK & CD V1 PACKAGE" anywhere. Has anyone used it? Where did you get it? How much was it?

Oh and this one... "HUMAN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY-GET READY A&P- 360 CD".... it's making my head spin. :(

Well thanks!!! :typing

IF your wanting to buy your A&P lecture book I would hold off on that, after I bought mine the prof. didn't even use it they only went by their notes. But you do have to get the lab book though. U can also try cheapbooks.com

I love abebooks.com. I usually get the international version of the text much cheaper. Soft covers, but same material, brand new, half the cost if not less.

Hi,

Barnes and Noble Online is actually the most cheapest when wanting to buy brand new textbooks. They are normally half the normal price and if you are a member for $20.00/yr you get more discounts. Its actually worth it because you save more than $20.00 after all the discounts.

Also, http://www.Alibris.com is the 2nd cheapest in New and Used books. They have all the other discounts bookstores there toolike all the ones listed below by other repliers including ebay and Amazon. I bought 3 nursing brand new textbooks that were $200.00 normally and I got it on there for $21.99. Crazy I know. I didnt believe it either. I just got my books from them yesterday and its great. Im going to start reading for the fall classes because I want to make sure i know the material before the first day. It will let you pay through PayPal so you can definitely trust the site and they also have extra discounts codes on there. Just look them up by ISBN #'s.

Oh and if you want to make sure you get the best studying you need to join http://quizlet.com/

Its connected to Facebook. You can invite all of your classmates and you can virtually be study buddies. you can make new flash cards and study materials and you can also use other peoples study materials from other colleges and schools. Its sooooo cool. I stumbled on it one night.

I always use bigwords.com to start with. Their site is great because it complies information from a ton of other websites and breaks it down for you, showing you how much it would cost to order your books from amazon vs. barnes and noble vs. alibris vs. half.com vs.... you get the idea.

Thanks everyone. This is great. I will have to try that quizlet site. And wow 21 bucks... I need to see that. I am not used to buying expensive ANYTHING so looking at the prices of these books make me kind of sweat a little. LOL. :o

My anatomy prof told us on the first day that we didn't have to get the text, but we would need the lab book and that old editions were ok. So, I would wait until the first day and ask the instructor, so you can put off buying anything that you don't absolutely have to get. Good luck this term.

Hey, I am surprised no one has suggested RENTING your textbooks. Is that an option for you? My A&P book was $225 at the bookstore but I ended up renting it for a semester (about 4 months) for a mere $50 including shipping. It was great because I took a whole year of A&P during the summer and that was the calendar equivalent of one semester.

This is who I use: http://www.chegg.com ... but I know there are others. You might want to Google renting textbooks to check it out.

I would recommend getting what is ordered by the instructors and then RETURNING what you don't need.

We had several students that waited until the first day of classes in order to purchase books, only to discover that the books was on backorder because students that were accepted into the nursing program, bought books, and then were no-shows on the first day, "threw off" the ordering number.

Students had to take their first exam without a textbook and had to share the library copies which were under orders not to be checked out.

Yes, they did.

Instructors looked at it like this (and I agree): Book list was posted a month before school started. Financial aid money was available for book purchases 3 weeks before classes started. If the students had purchased books in advance, then the shortage would have been realized, and books would have been ordered. The instructors did not feel the entire exam schedule should be interrupted because a few students made the choice to wait to the last minute to purchase books.

As long as you don't remove the shrink-wrap and keep your receipt, you can return most books to the bookstore.

Hi,

I use to buy all of my books at half.com and usually got a pretty good price. This semester my micro book was sooooooooo expensive, I refused to pay that much! I "rented" my book at campusbooks.com for $54.00 for the semester!!! Definately check out the site.
