Where do you find new grad nursing jobs in VA?????

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hi all,

I am from California, just found out I passed the NCLEX last week, and am currently looking for a new grad nursing position in Virginia. I have sent out my application to many places but to no avail.

Anyone know of hospitals that have entry level position out here??? I saw that some hospitals have residency programs twice a year, but I don't want to wait another 4 months just to apply.

Also, should I go directly to the hospitals and track down nurse recruiters or nurse managers? Applying over the internet seems so impersonal and this field is so competitive nowadays...

Anyways, any insight would be much appreciated! :)

Thanks for the info. I checked the time and it is about an hour from DC. I've really been looking at INOVA and I'm tryin to get a friend to pull in a favor for me so I can get an interview so I shall let you kno how that goes. Thanks once again!

What about UVA? I don't think that's been mentioned yet. They have a new grad cohort starting in Sept and October, there are PLENTY of RN Clinician 1 positions online right now.

I will check that out. Thanks!

Does anybody know what it means if they are putting in your application for review? I got a call from a recruiter and she said that she was putting my app in for review and to wait about a week or 2 for a call back for an interview. Does this mean that they're really considering hiring me??? Please someone help lol. I'm a desperate new grad RN looking for a job :(

You got a call from a recruiter? I think that is great! I only ever got one call from a recruiter and it was to come in for an interview. But I applied for several jobs and never got a call prior to that.

Inova DOES hire news grads, despite any rumors or lies you might be told. I am a new grad ADN RN, and got hired with Inova. In addition to that, there were 15 people from our graduating class (of 150) at INOVA NEW orientation last week! And that was just ONE week of orientation.

My class was told over and over that we would have a hard time finding jobs and that most of the hospitals in the local area, especially Inova, wasn't hiring new grads. I have recently found out that nothing but garbage. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's certainly not as uncommon as some might tell you.

I applied for over 20 job postings at Inova about 2 weeks ago and have received nothing back from them. I don't even have the nurse recruiter information there. Is there anyway you can PM me with it? I'm desperate lol. I am still waiting back to hear from the VHC recruiter. I just wanted to know or hear some reassurance from people who have had experience applying. I'm going crazy waiting to hear back from anyone

I worked for Inova for more than 6 years, and yes, they are still hiring new grads -- just not as many as they used to. As to why you haven't heard from them after submitting a resume, just imagine how many applications they are getting. I worked per diem at a similar size hospital system last year, and at that time, their HR department was receiving 5,400 applications per month. PER MONTH. I know I couldn't sort through that many ... yikes. It's great that you got a call, though. That's a good sign!!

Thanks lunah. I talked to my friend and she shed some light on the hiring process for me. Guess I'll just be waiting to hear back from VHC and just apply elsewhere in the meantime. :)

As far as getting the names of people to talk to in HR, all you have to do is call the hospital and ask for the number for nurse recruitment. But like I said, I did all that and it got me nowhere. I was applying for jobs, and then making contact with the PCDs for the various units and everything. So I feel your pain. I still don't know how the HR game works. One would think that you could simply put on your suit, go to HR, talk with a recruiter about the applications you've submitted, and follow up with a thank you card. But I don't think it's that simple. I would start by making contact with all the nurse managers and PCDs for whom you did clinical rotations and go from there.

Have you tried NVMHI? I did my Psych clinical there and there were some new grad ADN RN's from NVCC.

Well the problem with that is that I live in new jersey lol. I'm trying to relocate. And ill look into nvmhi but I've been working in psych for the last 2 years now and I kind of wanted to try something different. But if all else fails I might just have to settle. Thanks for the info! :)

Hi- I still have not found a job yet  I spoke to a nurse recruiter from Virginia Hospital Center yesterday and she said at this moment, there are no new grad positions, but that could change weekly. It is really tough out here for new grads right now. I hope to find a job soon because I'm so eager to start working as a nurse! :)

Yes I spoke to her 2 weeks ago and she asked me a whole bunch of questions but when I followed up I was told that I was not chosen for an interview :( I guess I'm just going to keep applying everywhere I can. So frustrating.

I'm sorry to hear that =( I know it's hard right now, but try to not get discouraged. Things will fall into place. Do you already have your VA license? I tried to message you privately but because I haven't posted 15+ times, apparently you can't do that.
