Where do you find new grad nursing jobs in VA?????

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hi all,

I am from California, just found out I passed the NCLEX last week, and am currently looking for a new grad nursing position in Virginia. I have sent out my application to many places but to no avail.

Anyone know of hospitals that have entry level position out here??? I saw that some hospitals have residency programs twice a year, but I don't want to wait another 4 months just to apply.

Also, should I go directly to the hospitals and track down nurse recruiters or nurse managers? Applying over the internet seems so impersonal and this field is so competitive nowadays...

Anyways, any insight would be much appreciated! :)

Yes I do have my virginia license. I also jus decided to send the application for a nj license. Might as well broaden my options even though that wasn't the original plan. Are you a new grad as well?

Yes, I am a new grad. I graduated in April, got my license in May, and have been looking for a job since then. No luck so far... I attended a job fair and even went around to 6 different hospitals and spoke to HR and/or nurse recruiters. However, they have been considering me more since I physically went in and spoke to them. You have to really compete for these positions...

See I here mixed messages about going in to HR and asking to speak to a recruiter. Some people say you get turned away or that people are rude to you and just tell you to apply online. And it stinks that I live all the way up here and have only just been emailing different people. But maybe I'll see what I can do to upgrade my harassment skills lol.:lol2:

Hi- I still have not found a job yet  I spoke to a nurse recruiter from Virginia Hospital Center yesterday and she said at this moment, there are no new grad positions, but that could change weekly. It is really tough out here for new grads right now. I hope to find a job soon because I'm so eager to start working as a nurse! :)

I just spoke with a nurse in our local NICU and she said they just hired 2 new grads in the NICU and 1 new grad in L&D. Keep checking! Good luck!

HI anyone who hasn't found a job yet! Things are definitely looking up. I got three interviews within the past 2 weeks and I landed all three jobs. The first job was at a clinic, the second job was a tech position at Prince Williams Hospital (then I would move into the ED in Feb as an RN), then the third position was an RN job at Inova. Advice for those of you looking: go into hospitals with your resume, cover letter, transcripts, letters of recommendation, personal and professional references, and ask to speak to someone in HR or the nurse recruiter. There's a thin line between being a pest and seeming eager, so if they seem hesitant to send you to the nurse recruiter, ask HR to forward the supplemental information themselves- I started getting calls within a month after I did that. There is still hope out there!

If you don't mind me asking, what did you wear when you went to HR at the hospitals? Did you dress as if going for an interview?

I'll be graduating in December and then relocating to VA from AZ - just collecting info at this point.

Thanks!

I dressed business casual- nice slacks and a dressy shirt. Good luck!
