No offense, I have enjoyed reading posts for those looking for school nurse positions. But, where are all the seasoned school nurses???
I think I know! H1N1 is kicking our butts and we have no time to post anymore from work. At home we are just too tired to lift a finger.
I had so many kids in my clinic today, it was standing room only. Can you say assmbly line assessments??? I don't think I have enough probe covers for my thermometer to get me through Christmas even - much less the end of the school year!!

Same here, it is just now hitting my school, I had been sending only 1-2 kids per day home with flu like symptoms, yesterday it doubled to four and today and am already at 6 and it is only 11AM!!! This is only going to get worse, in my opinion. Another school in my district has 10% out.
All I can hope is that we make it to Thanksgiving then everyone can be out for a week and stop spreading their germs. On the other hand, they will be around friends and relatives who will certainly pass their germs to the kids, so we are right back where we started. Buckle up, ladies, it is going to be an interesting ride!

What states is everyone in? I am in NYC and we are just doing bids for mass flu vaccinations. I have a feeling we will have 2 lines outside the health office: 1 for shots and 1 for symptoms of flu!!!!

Still here! The first of the year has been quite busy, but no real flu symptoms yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.

you are right, this school nursing board has been way too quiet !! i have been busy with start of the year stuff. not seeing many kids with influenz like illness just yet. bracing for it though !!
we have our n-95 respirator masks at the ready and lots of cough/sneezing etiquette (sp) ? teaching has been done.
i really have missed seeing everyones posts. let's all keep in touch ! i depend on you all !!

Oooh I am so mad about the N95 thing. We have none, and when I asked about it I was told "we aren't doing that". Grrrr. I have stocked a few of my own at home, so while "we" might not be doing that "I" might be doing it if this gets really bad!
I also wish my district would just say if you have flu like symptoms, you are automatically out for 5 days unless you bring a doctor's note to come back sooner. We are using the fever free for 24 hours thing, but some of these kids never run a fever so that rule is useless!!! :banghead:
Needless to say I am not happy with how my district is handling this.

Been too busy lately to post. We have to do daily reporting to the state that outlines the number of staff absent, students absent, visits to nurse, numbers of each absent with flu like illness. So now that means I am responsible for calling parents of absent children and document symptoms. Just what I want......more work to do that I don't have time for!

I'm still here. But barely! As you said, this year has been crazy from the start. I sit here before school typing this because I know I will not see the computer during hours! This year has been like no other I've had! We started getting hit pretty heavy by the flu begining last week. Before that it's been broken bones, asthma, football injuries etc! Whew. I still have to find some time to get to physicals before next weeks deadline! Yikes! Good luck to you and I hope our year starts to even out some pretty soon!
