Where are each of you in the EC program?

Published

I am just begining with EC and I was looking to get a post going with any other new EC students wanting to share. I'm not looking to set up a formal study group just a chance for any interested EC students to find others who may be working on the same NC. I am starting with NC1 and then MAYBE micro, depends on how strong I feel :)

I am still be applying for EC when I get my tax return. Mean time I have passed Lifespan, and Intro to Psych. I am taking my CLEP for sociology this Wednesday. Then it's on to American Lit. I hope to be starting the nursing classes in the begining of the year. I am going through Chancelors.

This is a great thread....every post has been helpful. I plan on enrolling in EC in Jan 05, I've already applied and have been accepted. I started with A&P, I am going so much slower than everyone here and I'm wondering if I'm being too careful. How hard was that A&P test anyway? :)

I wish I knew how hard A&P was going to be. I am registered to take it December 23.

I was studying a regular textbook but have thrown up my hands (can't read 1200 pages between now and December 23) and got me some Cliff's Notes on A&P. I'm going to study the Cliff's Notes and hope for the best.

Well, here's my update: I have received my official graduation date (12/17/04), and am waiting for my criminal background check to be sent to me so I can turn in my BON application. I have already paid off Pearson. Hopefully I'll be sitting for the NCLEX before Christmas. :) I'm starting on my BSN in January at a sorta trad program. It's a brick-and-mortar school where I'll be going to class every Wed. from 8-4, and will take one course a month. My friend is doing this program and loves it. It's all RN-BSN'ers who work full time. Some of the courses are online as well. I am probably going to do some of my upper level gen eds through EC so I can get them done.

I have transferred from the trauma stepdown to the fast track part of our ER, and am really loving it there. It's basically me, a couple techs, and the NPs/PAs. We work directly under the ED attendings, and much less paperwork there- yay! I'm really motivated to get my NP education now. I'm really fascinated with the bedside procedures they do, etc. I just may get my FNP and stay in acute care.

Hi, I am an enrolled EC student. I am presently preparing for NC4. I am also new to this site. Looking forward to talking and sharing experiences with you all.....LPH nurse

Congrats to you Laura!! I'm so happy for you! What a nice X-mas to yourself that'll be. Your BSN program sounds fabulous!! How long of a program is it?

Thanks, Spazzizzle :). It's about a 2 year program, but I think I can knock it out a little faster if I get all the gen eds done through EC while I do my nursing courses at the school. They have the same upper level requirements that EC has. I like it because it's specifically for working RNs who want to get their BSNs...all adults...lol.

Hi there!

I finally got enrolled!! YEAH!

I'm scheduled to take NC3 the first week in December. Wow - there's so much material for this one! Anyone preparing for NC3?

I've got to take Lifespan, NC4-7, then onto the CPNE.

Nice to meet everyone!

Take some advice from a recent (6 mos ago) EC grad:

(1) A board review course (yes, an NCLEX review course!) did wonders for my understanding of the whole nursing process. I was a medic for many years before going to EC and, frankly, there's no mistaking me as a medic even when I'm working in the ER. The NCLEX review course got me up to speed on how to think like a nurse.

(2) The Mosby NCLEX Review by Silvestri was wonderful. There are only so many questions about and there are only so many ways that you can a question about . For example, if your test is on psych nursing, use the CD and answer all the psych nursing questions. Make sure that you understand any that you answered incorrectly.

(3) Dantes exams and CLEP exams are cheaper than EC exams. You take either at a local college. CLEP and Dantes are about $75 each and are worth 3-6 credits. As you know the EC exams are about twice that for 3 credits. As an aside, for your humanities requirement, take a look at "Analize and Interpret Literature" CLEP. It was 6 cr. and really easy. CLEP information is at www.collegeboard.com and Dantes is at www.getcollegecredit.com.

(4) Before you take the CPNE, take the EC review course. I took EC's as I figured that it would make most sense to go to the source. The Project LEARN instructors are great and you can call them after the program for any more questions.

Good Luck!

Hey, I'm in the same spot! I just enrolled today and am also studying for NC3. Have you joined any of the groups at yahoo? They have a some great files that are very helpful in studying for these tests.

Hi Willtm!

Yes, I am in most of them (I would guess). The groups are very helpful and I always seem to find a study bud for whatever class I'm preparing for.

Are you almost done studying for it? When do you test?

Good luck to ya! NC3 is a mountain of information to learn!! But...I guess that's true for all of them!!
