Hi there. Sorry you are not finding many nurses in the South Dakota area of the website. I keep checking it myself but it seems as though there are not so many nurses in SD that come here. I keep telling people at work about the site but I guess it's taking time to catch on. I am an RN just south of Sioux Falls. I did not go to school in South Dakota so I cannot answer any questions about schools in SD. However, I am wondering what it is that has you coming all the way from NY to SD to nursing school.

I read an article about nursing schools in SD and it said that they have increased admissions substantially in the past couple years, but that they have waitlists just like everywhere else.

There are several nursing schools in South Dakota. There are wait lists but they aren't 3 years. Sometimes someone who was accepted changes their mind and you can take their slot.

I will reply even though it is late in the game. I live in Hot Springs, SD...about as south-west as you can go and still be in the state. I graduated from Lake Area Technical Institute in July 1995 and then from Excelsior College in March 2008. There are only 2 State schools in SD that offer RN programs, those being South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota. They each have outreach campuses across the state. There are also several private universities offering RN programs: Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchel, Presentation College in the Aberdeen area and I think one in Sioux Falls. I am not sure how hard it is to get accepted into the private programs, but for the state programs they want you to have all of your prerequisites done prior to appying. I know, from the SD nurse publication, that RN schools in SD "turned away 750 qualified applicants" last year due to faculty vacancies. It is because of this that I have chosen to pursue my bsn through an online progam.

Hope this helps, and sorry about the lack of responses!
