Moving family to Rapid City, SD

Hey guys, my family (wife and 4-month old daughter) are moving to Rapid City from California. Adjustment to the weather seems as it will be our biggest challenge. Any special tips for handling the long, cold winters? Other than weather, is there anything else that we should be aware of? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I know it's been roughly 3 years since you posted here on AN, but if you're still around.....would love to know how the transition went for you from CA to SD regarding dealing with the Winter weather.  

I'm also in CA and probably moving to a wintery midwest state in the next year or two.
