I studied EVERY day for that class....at least an hour. Be prepared to spend extra lab time in school on the lab stuff. Especially set enough time away before tests and NEVER get behind.

A&P classes are like running a marathon ;)

they tell you 1 hour for every hour of class I would say that is about right, that would have worked out to 10 hours a week outside of class for me. I broke it up and had a schedule I went by my classes were fri/sat and I had chem on tues/thursay I have kids in school and used all their school time for study between the 2 classes. I also did catch up work in the evening after my kids went to bed, I often made flash cards while sitting with my husband as he flipped the endless drivel on tv LOL. I would also stay after in AP for 2 hours each day and do lab work or study lecture topics.

Hey, my husband quizzed me on identifying bones and tissues....he knows that the inside of our esophagus is made of stratified squamous and he even tolerated a miniature skeleton camping out next to my side of the bed for WEEKS. :lol2:

I know that this class involves alot of work so I was planning on spening 10 hrs on A&P + lab, 5 hrs for Stat, 3 hrs Speech, and 3 hrs Government.

I won't be working and I will have Friday, Saturday and Sunday free, so I should be fine.....:uhoh3:

Every chance I got. There is a lot of information to learn, and repitition is the key. There are several occasions were I reread a chapter more than once. Tests are a lot less stressful when you are absolutely certain that you know the material.

oh ya thats so me too my kids all quized me they all took turns with flash cards and every now and then I would make my husband too but he was squimish hehehe. I have already warned him about the sheeps brain I will be taking home next semester hehehe.

sounds like a good plan! just make a schedule and stick too it, sometimes having the days off in a row makes for distractions set your self up to successeed and you will. And I will Ditto what Stapugirl said don't get BEHIND!!

And another thing....take every extra credit opportunity, too, even if its just a couple of points. study like heck for the first test,most people are way too relaxed in the beginning and think things will get easier down the road...well, it will only get harder as time goes on and you will thank yourself for getting a good start.

I hope we are not scaring you too much. We've just been there, gotten trhough it with A's and have learned a few tricks :monkeydance:

If you don't have kids consider yourself lucky because nobody tucks on you and zaps your energy.

If you have kids find quiet places and have the dad or whoever is trustworthy pitch in so that you can have maximum study time.

I took my A&P self-paced via internet. It was actually a hybrid class where I went into the biology center to do my lab in person and take exams there. The rest of the work done was just me and my textbook and the list of objectives and worksheets from the instructor which was online.

So I can't separate my class time from my study time because there was no class. No extra credit was offered. I'd say that I studied on average about 15 hours per week, plus a few hours a week for doing the labs and taking exams. I finished the class with a grade of 96%. Hope this is helpful.

I couldn't imagine taking that class online and expect to make it through nursing school without difficulty, let alone pass the NCLEX. the reason I am saying this is that we have such difficult, high quality A&P classes at our college and online A&P is not recommended, neither are fast paced summer classes.

Actually, only the worksheets and objectives were posted online. I understand your concern, but actually the hybrid class that I took is said to be a slightly more challenging A&P class compared to the in-person traditional A&P classes at my campus. I had several biology instructors tell me this. So at my school at least - my self-paced A&P taught me a little bit more than the students in the traditional classes. The instructors said that the self-paced version went into the material at a bit more depth, and because the exams came from test banks and were set in stone - the instructors couldn't modify and/or back off on teaching any specific topic. As I mentioned, the labs were in person at the bio lab.
