When you took A&P I how many hours...

I forgot to add that amount of time studying really is reflective of the teacher. I had a super easy teacher, so I didn't have to really study since he didn't ask much of us. I know if I had this other teacher, i'd be studying tons every day.

OK this is my experience and what I have seen happening around me....people who take too many classes usually don't make an A in A&P because they can't devote enough time to the material. It may work for you and you can always drop a class if things grow over your head. If you don't work and dont have kids I think you will do fine.

For the colleges around here, Portland OR, you have to have an A in A&P to even be considered for a Nursing Program because there is so much competition.

From your experience, do you think taking 1 other 4 credit class along with a 4 credit A & P class is too much if you're striving for an A?

we have this sort of class offered at our school but only 5 people are chosen to do it and you have to be hand picked by the instructors. I got a 105 in AP 101 but no one asked me to do it lol It is a really strict program and probably not one I could do.

For lab I studied maybe 30 minutes every other day just to keep myself current on the muscles, bones, etc. But for lecture I studied maybe 30-60 a day 2-3 days before the test. I got an A in lab and lecture.

Sounds about what I had to invest for an A...Hard work pays off :smiley_aa

My A&P 1 teacher required 24/7 studying....two students were left in the end to take the final. It was ridiculous.

yes I definitely need an A in A&P, I also want A's in Statistics and Speech, and I therefore decided to concentrate on just that...The professor I signed up with for A&P is supposed to be hard but also fair. I didn't want an easy professor because I know it will hurt me in the future. :nono:

I would only go with one 4 credit hour science class at a time because of the lab portion. I ahve a family and a huge house to take care of and a husband who is never around but on the weekends for a day. Sometimes he is gone for 6 months in a row. If I were single and had no such obligations then it would be a different story.

What's your situation, do you have kids, a job? the key is to have enough study time. I have never studied more in my life than for the 4 credit hour science classes with lab.

I took those classes separately. I studied for both for hours and hours. It is a different type of studying. I spent a lot more time in the lab for anatomy and more time in coffee shops for physio....I can not even count how much time I studied for each. Maybe a little more for physio because it is so complex and I took it before Anatomy and Chemistry so some of the concepts took me a little longer to grasp had I taken anatomy and chemistry. Although, it make anatomy seem so much easier because Physio kicked my orifice...hardest A I ever worked for, even more than chem...but I loved it more than Chem!!!!!!! :lol2: I love anything more than Chem

Thanks for posting because sometimes I feel that I must be crazy or something wrong with me for having to study so much for these type of classes....All I can tell you is that everyone in my classes who doesn't put in as much effort also doesn't get an A....A's are scarce in our school adn you REALLY have to bust your butt for one. My own husband who has put up with this for a number of semesters and should know better by now can't grasp how difficult it is for me. He didn't get it TODAY that I just don't want to be bothered right now about X-mas preparations. I am studying for my final and jsut can't concern myself with a stupid Honey Baked Ham right now....not until Wednesday :bluecry1: I've told him more than once, EVERYTHING after Wednesday....but he can't wait. Now how frustrating is that?!?!?!?!?!?!? The classes alone can make you crazy but then there is always everything else around piling on top too....enough to drive you out of your mind

You know...they get an A on an exam and when you say something like "you must have really studied" they say "no, not really." It's like some students don't want to admit how much they study. The material does not magically get into one's brain. It seems like with so many students they think admitting they have to really study is a weakness or something. It's bizarre.

I spoke with a professor about this recently. He said many will not admit how much they study because they think it makes them appear weak. It just snowballs from there.

I edited my first entry on this thread to reflect that my estimated 15 hours per week of study time for A&P did not include the time spent on labs and taking exams.

You just wonder why it is that way....many of the concepts covered in A&P take time to chew on....most of the stuff needs time to sink in and you need to read things more than once for it to stick. Keep going at your pace and do whatever it takes for you to get the grade. I will definitely put in whatever time required, why change something if it works? Whatever it takes, we will just keep going until we reach our goal!!!! Good luck!
