Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.

I know you have seen and heard freaky things. Share your nursing ghost stories...

Why a fedora and trench coat? Because those were common clothes some time ago for men.

Not the same guy

Absolutely awesome story (and phenomena!), HQ!

I have never heard of this before, and have now officially spent the afternoon reading the sites you linked above (instead of studying -- I'm a third semester nursing student!) I have never heard of (or experienced, thank God) anything like this, but now I'm like addicted to researching it. "Shadow People." "The Hat Man." Ultra creepy, just in time for Halloween!

The only thing I really picked up on from reading the stories on those links is that there are a LOT of times when I'm sitting at my computer and I catch movement out of the corner of my eye, like someone walking by the window, but when I turn to look, there's never anyone there. I never feel the coldness or get the chills, with the exception of one time when the shadow that moved across the window was HUGE and slow moving. That time, I swear a shiver went down my spine and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I tried to rationalize that maybe it was a cloud covering the sun in the sky, but when I went out to investigate, it was an absolutely beautiful, clear, cloudless day. Also, it's important to note that I literally live in the middle of very dense woods without another house or any signs of human life in sight. We don't even have shades or blinds on our windows, so it wasn't like movement from a neighbor's house or a car passing by or anything. Wonder if that was a shadow person.

Anyone else ever had any experiences like this? Apparently, it's rather common!

A couple nights ago, the Respiratory Therapist was telling us about a man that shows up and asks the nurse what pt Mr or Mrs So&So are in. The nurse tells him and within moments, that patient is crashing. Supposedly, no one can remember what the "man" looked like afterwards.

Several seasoned ICU nurses and Respiratory Therapists swear this happens occasionally.

I don't know if I buy it, but I did find myself hugging my lab coat and following another RN to help when she went to bathe her patient. (After story time!)

I don't remember if I posted this one or not, so bear with me.

We had a new STNA go into room 1. She was going to stock for the next patient and came out of the room running. Reports that something white and big knocked her back when she opened the bathroom door and she said her hair actually flew back. About 3 days later the new patient's daughter told me she saw a the outline of a huge white angel wig at the end of her mom's bed...

My critical thinking teacher was talking to us about the theorist, Jean Watson and how she believed in a higher power. We then went around the classroom and people shared their stories that occured in the health care setting. Stories ranged from patients describing a patient that had just died to weird things happening to them. In the essence of Halloween, I was wondering if anyone had any interesting stories to share that happened to them at work or a night clinical. It sounded fun!!

I don't have any stories though i've heard some from friends. I'd LOVE to get all these together and write a book. Fascinating.

My friend was in nursing school a couple years ago and she worked at an extended living facility. She worked a lot of nights and one night she had a patient who was not doing great. they checked him earlier that night and he was asleep. a few hours later the call bell went off so they went into the room to discover that he had died at least an hour or so before. Turns out the place has its own resident ghost. The facility is actually the old hospital called St. Michaels. It was run by nuns many years ago. The hall where this resident died has many different stories about a nun coming in and sitting with a patient etc. my friend said she once saw her walking down the hall and it freaked her out.:scrm: The coffee machine will turn itself on and make a fresh pot of coffee even though noone is around. I've talked to the senior nurses on my floor that worked in the old building before they were moved to the new one and they told me that similar things had happened when they were there.

Fascinating, but never happened to me.
