What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I turned down a marriage proposal once. We would have been Larry and Mary Lou Pugh (pron. Pew)

I worked as a midwife in the UK in the 1980's and early 1990s. We suffered a lot of bad names - one family called their first born son after every single member of the Manchester United football team.

The worst craze for name giving was in the 1980s when the TV programmes Dallas, Dynasty and the Carringtons were on the TV screen in the UK. We had a lot of babies called Blake, Alexis and Crystal after that.

My husband's family wanted us to name our son Walter Albert Reginald - not something I was prepared to sanction - especially as our surname starts with the letter 'T' so his initials would have been W.A.R.T. poor kid, I just couldn't do it to him...

I thought Prairie Dawn sounded so familiar, so I googled it and she is one of the muppetts on Sesame Street.

my brother and his girlfriend wanted to name their baby, if it was a girl... Coco Candice... luckily its supossed to be a boy, i really hope so lol

I once heard of a mom who named her child Nosmoking.....said it was the last thing she saw before her c/s. I also had a teen mom who named her child Margarita......(sad). I learned from many years working with new parents how to keep a straight face.

Margarita is a common name for girls in Spanish language and very beautiful. Lots of funny names here but that is not one of them. I like it.

I knew a Russian couple that named their fourth child (I am unsure of the pronounciation but it means 4)

Shitheady. It is something like she thead ee.

This happened when I was in Ukraine.

Here's one that has become legend.

A young first time mom had twins, a boy and girl, both healthy, and the new little family was discharged a day or two later, while the mom was still mulling names over (This happened 20 yrs ago or so)

About 6 mos from the time of the twins birth, a friend of ours who is a policeman happened to pull this mom over due to a minor infraction, perhaps a tail l:lol2: ight was out. Anyway, he looks in the backseat, and there are these two adorable babies. He says to the mom," Cute kids, what are their names?" The mom saide," Mali and Fimali" The cop says, "You Mean Male and Female?" The mom repelied", yes thats right, those were the names on the bracelets after they were born, so I just decided not to change it!""":lol2:
