What's the weirdest baby name?

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

OOO I remembered a few more Tyree (Ti-ree), Dizmeer, Shaquilla Rae (shakeela Ray) Lately I've had a few nevaeh s too. Although one girl spelled it neveah (sounds like a hand cream to me)..I've had an Oz and one girl told my charge nurse she liked the name MECONIUM - she said she kept hearing us say it and thought it was pretty..Our charge nurse talked her out of it explaining to mom what meconium was

This is fun! I've been reading back and can't believe how "common" some uncommon names are becoming...I have seen a few of the ones posted. Three boys walker, Texas, Ranger. Anakin.

One day I was joking around with a dad. I asked him what his name was. He said Amal. I asked how do you spell that and he says J'amal. I said ??? it's not Jamal. We were teasing each other...then he says the J is silent...I said ok ok what does your mother call you.. He says "Joseph" He, his girlfriend and I had a good laugh.

I had a classmate in elementary school named Tyree. He went by Ty at the time, and not long ago, I told someone a story about him and decided to Google him to see if I could locate him.

He was a short black kid, very smart, with a ginormous Afro (this was the mid-1970s) and a girl I sometimes played with said he had an "umbrella haircut" :clown: (That was the story.) His sister was in my Girl Scout troop, and a few years later, their parents got divorced and they moved away. Anyway, the Google search revealed that he's a dentist in the Las Vegas area, and is the director of a mobile dental clinic that goes to low-income areas in that city, and outlying Indian settlements, to provide dental care to those people.

:wink2:

He no longer has an umbrella haircut. :D

Giving bad baby names is a pretty big thing --- I was googling a name and stumbled to this site http://bigbadbabynames.net/forum/index.php . It's pretty interesting.

:( :( :(

I was wondering ---- what do you consider a weird/bad name? A name that you don't know/never heard of or a name that doesn't make sense?

Ex. Ameena which is a legit, cultural name vs. Nevaeh which is just a made up name?

To me a "bad" name is first of all a name which will get the kid teased unmercifully. My son whose name is Alec had for a time a "bad name" when one of his Jr high classmates decided to call him "Alice"! Who knew?

Other names are those made-up names no one can pronounce and those no one can spell. Worst of all, those no one can pronounce OR spell. And of course the names where the parents were being cute!! Some of those names would only be suitable for pets, not children.

one time i remembered..it was a really boring day at the OB, the patient told me she wanted to name her baby 'compassion'. probly she's bleeding heavily that time to decide on that name...:nurse:

I once heard of a mom who named her child Nosmoking.....said it was the last thing she saw before her c/s. I also had a teen mom who named her child Margarita......(sad). I learned from many years working with new parents how to keep a straight face.

Um..I might be wrong...... but isn't Margarita a real name?

That one has been around a long time; I remember a man by that name when I was a small child.
