What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

My sisters best friend in high school was Mercedes Alain Carswell. *gag* Why do parents do that to their kids?

I'm sure it's on here somewhere but we seem to have a rash of posts about "Mercedes". It's a rather common and usual name with Spanish speaking people. The name Mercedes came before the car. Now; I'm sure there are people out there with no knowledge of this and with no Hispanic heritage that name their kids after the car but all the Mercedes I have cared for personally have been Hispanic.

I've worked with a Mercedes, and it didn't seem too unusual a name for her. Maybe for a baby it would seem a little odd though.

knew someone who nasmed their little girl Nevaeh Heaven spelled backwards.

My grandmother had 3 daughters. I still can't figure out how my Mom (the middle daughter) ended up with such a "plain" name, Alice Jane; the youngest is Orpha Jean (Orpha was also grandma's name), and their older sister is named Byrdena Gleneva (everyone just calls her Birdie).

On the other side of my family, my uncle decided that if there could be a Rock Hudson, then he was naming his son David Brick (this was in 1965). When David Brick's sister had a baby in December 1982, she named the girl Erin Loreen. What she didn't realize (until I pointed it out) is that the child's initials were ELF :icon_wink: (born a little after midnight on December 26th).

I work with a man named Lester. When a new coworker arrived, with the name of Surlester, we jokingly referred to the original Lester as "Nobleman Lester" so he wouldn't feel slighted!
