What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

In my home town growing up there was a family that named all their kids after greek gods they had Buffalo Zeus, Aphrodite, Isis and Aaron (not unusual I know but a god none the less)

another family in the area had the last name Beaver and named their 2 youngest kids Pacer and Cricket! their middle son who did have a common name went by Bucky, Bucky Beaver I always felt sorry for him!

I've posted several times on this thread; but here's another. This child was actually in our unit one night when I worked; I saw her name tag;

Braden Angelina. Now, the key is how you pronounce the first name; it's Brad-n.

And the mom swears she never realized before the nurses pointed it out that this sounded a lot like a famous couple. I don't believe her story. Good news is; it's a name that's not that unusual unless you say it together.

I once called Allstate to get a quote on some insurance. Well the call center must have been in the south because a very southern black women answer my call and very politely states to me "Hi my name is Africa" it took all i could not to laugh.

Hey, Affrica (2 f's, not a typo) was my waitress tonight at golden corral.

When I was still in orientation I had a mom tell me her baby's name "Odin". Which isn't too bad except that's my dog's name! It was very difficult to not blurt out, "oh, hey, that's my dog's name."

In my short four months working NICU, I have come accross Quadhr (his mom was annoyed at me when I asked her how to spell it for his isolette card), Chauntisse, Amin and Amir (twins) and many others. However, their young mom's names weren't "mainstream" either so I guess they're just following what they know! The worst had to be the 23 week triplets that were named Faith, Hope and Promise (Hope and Promise have since moved on to a better place) and my current charge...a 24 weeker named Precious. As the fellow said this morning...babies with names like that have a record of not doing well...

Let's see...I've seen several girls named Precious, one December (poor thing was born in August), several Princesses, one Trixie, but my favorite was a little boy named Knowledge. He has a brother named Sincere.

I took care of a baby boy named Denim the other day.....

My sisters best friend in high school was Mercedes Alain Carswell. *gag* Why do parents do that to their kids?
