Whats all this talk about not being able to find a job??

Published

why do people complain so much about not being able to find a job after graduating? there are SOOO many jobs listed by fl hospital and orlando health! a friend of mine just got hired with orlando health, she graduated from SCC this past year.

She should consider herself fortunate.

There is a serious lack of jobs for new grads, I can tell you that. Many hospitals have been suspending/canceling their new grad programs which is likely why there is an increase in comments about the job hunt. I was applying in California and was competing against anywhere from 400-1200 applicants per new grad program that had on average 10 openings.

Job listings do not equal actual jobs. Where did you find your RN job?

I see now you're not even graduated yet...good luck when you are!

It's really tough in FL right now. I just graduated this semester and luckily I got a position in the hospital where I did my preceptorship but, I'd say only 20 % of my class out of about a 100 had actual jobs lined up. Even though there are job postings, it doesn't mean they will hire new grads. When I had my interview, the Nurse Manager showed me a stack 4 inches thick of all new grads that applied for that position. Florida has SOOO MANY nursing schools and each semester hundreds if not thousands of nurses enter the job market. I find myself EXTREMELY lucky to have gotten a job.

I moved to Florida a year ago. Got my license in October and have applied to over 224 jobs. Yes I have been keeping track. I today just got an interview this week. I was not to lucky the last 8 months. Not one call back. Every email rejection letter stated they wanted one year of RN licensed experience.

The job market was so depressing in FL that I stopped doing the LPN-RN transition program and got out of FL.

The good news is, with your attitude, you should have no problem finding a job. The problem must be with the rest of the new grads in the country who can't find jobs. I guess if we had the intelligence to actually APPLY for the jobs listed, we wouldn't have this problem.

Because there is a lack of jobs. Do you think that people are making up these stories up? This is a real bad situation we have going on here. Congress is debating right now about if they should raise the debt ceiling or should the U.S. default on their debts. The dollar could crash any moment; and there could be a food shortage in the near future. So if that person found a job, they should consider themselves fortunate that they could still put food on the table.

Ok, I have obviously stated my question wrong. Sorry. What I mean is why is that were are talked into believing in this so called nursing shortage yet so many people complain of not being able to find a job ? This is what I don't understand.

I know, because that's all I've been hearing. I've been applying and not one call back; and I have experience.
