What's the longest time that passed before hearing back that you got the job?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I interviewed a week and a half for my dream job. It went REALLY well, the nurse manager even said at the end of it they'd be in touch next week to see what they had to offer. My hopes were sky high. Last week passed and I hadn't heard anything so I called HR on Friday and the manager told me the nurse manager and DON hadn't sat down to meet about candidates yet, but that she would call me as soon as she heard anything. I looked on the website and the position I applied for had been taken down and I saw a posting on a job forum for a traveler position in that department (for a different amount of hours and shift than I had applied for). My hopes are borderline crushed at this point, but I'm trying to stay optimistic. I know there could still be a chance. I'm guessing if it fell through that the nurse manager couldn't get it authorized for me (I'd be coming in with no experience in that particular field). They hadn't checked any references yet so I know it has nothing to do with that, and I'm in good standing in every job I've worked.

What's the longest time you heard back after an interview? Is this a normal amount of time? Should I count this out and start looking elsewhere again?

i waited 4 weeks to hear if i got my current job. Ick. BUT on the upside i did get the position and accepted it :)

Specializes in Telehealth, Hospice and Palliative Care.

6 weeks after a single interview, they called and offered me the job. I had stated that I needed to give one month notice at my current position, and they called with three days to spare, given their anticipated start date.

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

I hear your pain. I had a second interview for a position that I would be PERFECT for, and I felt so confident after teh second interview. I called back the following week, they said they were interviewing all the rest of the week and would probably make a decision the following week (which would have been last week). I called back last Thursday and left a voicemail following up, and they never called me back. The problem with this position is that it's a clinic, not a hospital with a whole bunch of bureaucracy and an HR department - it's just a couple doctors and an office manager, I would assume not a lot of red tape there. So I'm going under the assumption that I didn't get the job, even though I felt so confident about it a few weeks ago. VERY disappointing, I really wanted this job!

Specializes in CCU, cardiac tele, NICU.

I wouldn't worry about it - it took about 1.5 months between my most recent interview and getting the news that I got the job. Try to relax and enjoy your time now - odds are you'll be working at that dream job soon, and you'll wish you'd spent more time on the couch and less time worrying. Good luck! :)

I filled out an application for a job in a LTC facility on June 13th. Then they called me on July 1st asking me if I was still interested. I said yes. She pretty much told me I was hired over the phone. I was working two jobs and getting ready to start back for my RN, so I needed something different. They called me on the 5th of July and told me to come in so they could do my background check and physical. I also had a brief interview with the DON I did all that. Now I have orientation this week. I already quit one job, just gotta let the other one know. I am so happy this happened to me :yeah:I have been looking for a full time LPN job for a long time. This will be 3 12 hour shifts, will be wonderful since I am in school. One of my jobs was at an agency and I had been there waaaay too long. They had me doing aide work and no LPN work. I def will not miss that! I am not saying an LPN can't do aide work, but when you are told that the LPN work is coming, you wanna keep waiting. I just don't like being lied to. I am so happy to finally be getting the expeience I need to grow as a good nurse. I hope you get the job :smokin:

I waited six long, agonizing weeks after my interview before I finally got a call back from the recruiter offering me the job. Now that I know I have the job, and signed the official offer letter, the wait doesn't seem so terrible and was well worth it. I totally understand your pain though; it's an awful feeling to be on edge thinking your phone can ring with THAT CALL at any moment. I hope that you get the position OP!

Specializes in LTC.

Interviewed and they called within a week to tell me I didn't get the job... a month later I get a call from the unit manager saying that she had another position open up and really wanted me.

Specializes in Med/Surg, DSU, Ortho, Onc, Psych.

I'm still waiting to hear back about some jobs.....

Specializes in Med/Surg - E.R. - Pediatrics.

After the interview, I call them within 24 hours, If they tell me to get them a few days thats all I give them (2-3 days) This continues until one of two things happens.... either they tell me to go away or they hire me.

This has worked for every job I have ever wanted, meaning If I want the job bad enough ill bug the hell out of you till you tell me to shove off or come to work.

I feel this works because it shows that you want the job, your willing to start today and you want it more than the guy who isnt calling.

There is much more to this, for example in the interview I tell them why I want to work for them, and why this is the "only place I've applied" type of statement. Then Back it up with phone calls that show how eager I am to work for them.
