Whats going on at CSULB - Long Beach?

Published

I'm in the process of applying for the Accelerated BSN program at CSULB. Most of my application has already been submitted. They just announced that they will no longer will offer the Accelerated BSN program, but instead a accelerated BSN/MSN program with Clinical Nurse Specialist emphasis. So the program just went from 16 months to 36 months! I don't understand how they could change the program in the middle of application process. Does anybody find this unusual or is this common occurance in nursing education? Anyway, they mentioned that few students will be able to opt out after completing their BSN; however, they have not establish the creteria opting out. Is this a bad sign? Does anybody have any experience or feedback with CSULB? Also, what is a Clinical Nurse Specialist? How are they different from NP? I'm so confused and shocked.:uhoh21: Please help!

what are the requirements to get in that school...? i know pre-reqs too.. but can you bridge from LVN to BSN??? do they have that progm? thanks!

I too, considered the CSULB program. I didnt have much of a problem contacting people with questions. Fortuanately I asked a question about the program and come to find out that they had dropped the ABSN program before I started the application process. I live in the Bay Area so I will be only applying to programs here. There are some good schools here but the cost of living will hurt your pockets. Good Luck with everything.

Hi, are there any updates now about the ELMSN program at CSULB? Thanks!

Did you find out anything about El-msn program I am planning on applying for fall 2011?

Thanks for all the great information.... I don't know you if you realize but this thread is 5 years old! :) I just came across it yesterday and was wondering if anyone on the thread went through the el-msn program or maybe you know some students that did. Were those students able to find jobs as RN's while they attended the MSN portion. That is my plan but I know the market is really tough right now for any nurse to find a job. BTW for those of you who are applying to Long Beach I had absolutely no problems applying. The coordinator is more than happy to answer any question you have and always gets back to me within a few days... From what I have read if you have even one pre-req in progress even though you can apply you are more than likely not going to get in because both the BSN and el-msn programs are really competitive.

Just graduated with my BSN from Cal State Long Beach. CSULB has a contract with Long Beach Memorial, so you can sign with them. The commitment is 2 years.

I thought they stopped doing that because there were so many new grades going to LBMH that they had to start cutting their hours and even letting some of them go? Is this true? Did you receive your BSN from the BSN program or are you in the El-msn program and just finished the first half of it. How is job searching going? I am getting ready to start the El-msn program in the fall... so fricken excited. How did you like the school? Thanks in advance for reading and answering my post.

Actually not sure if they are still doing the contracts, but you should contact them to see. LB Memorial is partially the one funding the Trimester and Entry Level MSN, and you will be doing your clinicals there, so they have an investment in you.

I don't know if they are giving stipends anymore. When I started we where getting 20K for the program. I was originally in the Trimester (2 year ) program, but had to repeat OB so I did the basic. The hospital also decided to terminate our contract, so now I gotta payback the 20K. Ouch.

Job hunting sucks. Those whom got jobs from my class where the ones whom were working at a hospital or had the contract with memorial already. That would be my advice to work at hospital as a student nurse or CNA, but that's close to impossible with the 1 year schedule.

Malefocker, I am confused! How are you getting ready to start the EL-MSN program at CSULB this fall? I thought their application filing period wasn't scheduled to start until March 1. I am worried now. I hope I don't miss any deadlines! Have you already heard from them?

No you didn't! I am just being optimistic!!!! :) Although you did need to submit an application to the school between oct. 1 and nov 30th 2010... but yeah their nursing school application is due between march 1rst and april 2nd! I started another thread you can find it under fall 2011 el-msn csulb. There are a few of us on there that are applying. Sorry to scare you. :)
