What is with the shortages of morphine, epi, propofol and other various meds? A medic told me that they are also out of the 10ml epi syringes and have to use the ampules. Just wondering how many other facilities are being hit by this?
OBAMACARE......................
.......is the catch-all excuse by the Pharma companies and insurance companies. It's not like they'll be hurting when it goes into effect. They just want to influence public opinion negatively towards the government so that in 2012 they get their person in office. In the meantime, hospitals can't carry drugs and supplies that are necessary to give care, and this trickles down to the patients in some way.
I usually try to avoid politics but this one really galls me.
I don't understand it. We were out of epi premixed syringes for a while, still out of the D50 premixed syringes that come out of the boxes. Our pharmacy reported only a couple of manufacturers make them and they are in short supply.
You know every hospital needs all these drugs why are only a couple of companies making them??

For one reason w/bactrim, compazine and phenergan - there is little profit and high risk.
They are generics, and all are associated with law suits related to side effects, or in the case of phenergan, tissue damage from infusion.

Health insurance reform leads to drug shortages?
Really?
It couldn't have anything to do with drug company CEOs getting $14,000,000 annual compensation?
