What do young single nurses do on their days off?

I'm a 23 yo new grad who is only working 3 days a week (Friday, sat, sun following my preceptors schedule) and for the 4 days that I'm out of work I don't know what to do with myself! So, what should I do the whole day??

I'm just curious to see what everyone else, on a similar set up, does...

Ideas would be really appreciated! I'm such a loser! Haha, but I'm just so use to working 5days a week! I'm sure u guys understand ?

I'm 22 and work nights so unfortunately I sleep on my days off and then am awake all freaking night when nobody else is up!!! It's so annoying to want to go to the mall or grab a bit to eat at 4 am but realize nothing is open. However most of my friends are home by 6 so sometimes we do things early in the evening.

I just worked 3 12's in a row so all I can manage to do today is lay around in my pj's and be lazy. Other days, I cook, clean the apt, do laundry, go for walks, lay by the pool, do pilates, go shopping. I also have time to learn quilting, which I love doing. Week day mornings are great times to go to the mall-Its never crowded. I also meet other nurses for lunch. Or I go meet my mom for lunch and shopping. Last month I had 4 days off in a row and took off to New Hampshire for a long weekend of hiking and relaxation. Enjoy your days off!!

I'm in your old position...I'm student in a program that soaks up almost every minute of my life (except for the few moments that it's taking me to write this).

I dream of the day where I can have a life again. As a single person, Mondays are always rough for me, because everyone always asks, "So, what did you do this weekend?" Inevitably, my mumbled response is almost always something about school, work, or studying. I think they assume that just because I'm young and single that my life is full of excitement and wild times--so not true (for right now, anyways).

Anyways, once I'm done with school, I'll be looking forward to taking weekend trips, vacations (abroad), exercising without the guilt that I should be studying, relaxing with a good book (without the guilt that I should be studying), more traveling and exploring, shopping, enjoying nice restaurants...I can't wait!

I think you have the "New Grad Syndrome".

I think Oldiebutgoodie may be on to something. After I graduated and passed my boards I was left with this feeling that I didn't know what to do with myself. My boyfriend would laugh at me and shake his head as I was a bit restless and had a hard time just relaxing.

It passed and now I never seem to do all I wanted to on my days off. You've worked hard enough to get where you are, now it's time to enjoy the benefits of your accomplishments :)

I'm a single 27-year-old female with no children, but I don't know if 27 is still considered 'young' these days. Anyway, I have always been an introvert who really does not enjoy the night life, socializing, or being around people in general. On my days off, I tend to take care of business matters, catch up on rest, or attend school if I have enrolled for that semester.

Hm... I tend to take a day off to sleep in and then clean up my place. If others are anything like me after three days in a row my place is trashed. On my other days I like to practice martial arts, play video games, camping, reading, and I am thinking about taking breakdancing classes. :)

at 20, and soon to be a nurse (3 weeks) I find myself wondering what I'll do with 4 days off a week. This is what I've figured out for now:

Initially, use the time to study for boards

If I pass my boards, I'm hoping to start on a BSN, hopefully in either Nov or Jan (on-line program)

Finally be able to do some non-nursing related reading

Take some sort trips, even just for a day or so, to explore area museums, sites, etc.

Not to mention the little things like sleeping in every day I don't work, ahh, life's simple pleasures

yes thats exactly what im going thru! im so use to my time being occupied with school and work and now its like i cant relax and have to find something to do! it really drives me crazy tho coz i get bored!

This is what I did after nursing school--I subscribed to Netflix and started watching all the movies I missed while in school!

Believe, it will take you NO TIME to get used to laying on the couch watching movies in your down time! You will learn to relax!

Good luck, and congratulations on your graduation!
