Just curious as to what other schools are making students pay for books.. I just paid over $500.00 for books!! That is also trying to find the BEST price.. searched everywhere.. Ebay,Amazon, Barnes and Nobles.. I could go on.. I was just wondering what everyone else has paid for their books.. Would be nice to know that I am not alone!!..

I paid about $400.00 for my first semester books and that was in 1990.
Some of those books will be used throughout several semesters, so generally the next semester is cheaper. But ever so often, they change a M/S book or two and you have to replace it with the new "standard" text.
Medical books are expensive in general. If you see the price on my professional onco/hemo books, they are still pretty pricey ($65 - $110)

Books are so expensive!! I remember I would buy all my books for school (try to get a couple used ones) and then after I was, I had people behind me in school ask me to borrow the books!! So I payed the big bucks and they got to have a good friend me to let them borrow them.
Try bigwords.com It looks up the best prices for a book at several different online booksellers and you can usually save quite a bit.

First semester books at my NS are about $650.. I figured out that if I join Barnes & Noble though I can save about $100 off that.. of course if you can buy used that would help but most NS books are the latest editions so no used ones out there....

If I had bought mine thru the bookstore they would have cost me alittle over $700. I got the book list and purchased mine thru ebay, half.com and B&N. I ended up paying around $350. I only had to buy a few books brand new from B&N - all the rest were "used". I almost wished I had waited on purchasing some of the books - especially the recommended "study guides" - I rarely used them.

One of my books for this coming fall is going to cost me over $300 alone, and I'm taking 19 credit hrs. :uhoh21:

I paid over $650 for my books my first semester. But the good news is that it usually goes down considerably each semester after that. At least you will be able to use these books later in your practice unlike some $100 books for other non-nursing classes that will sit collecting dust from now until the end-of-time.

About the same as you. Just the A&P book was 225.00 plus a dissection kit, and if you add flashcards etc the tab keeps going up.
The worst thing is that when the book company comes to buy back the books they offer 5-15 dollars and that is it
I usually sell or give away the gen ed books but keep all the science books.

Nursing books are always expensive so I always try to get used ones. Even then I pay around $75-100 per book. Sometimes an older edition is okay but you have to ask your professor.
I use Half.com and Amazon.com. You can also try http://www.campusbooks.com
Good luck!

I bought used on e-bay and paid maybe $200 total. The older editions made no difference whatsoever (though I only bought one edition back, no older than 5 years) except for page numbers.

It's going to cost me about $800 ordering from B&N with the membership discount and free shipping (first semester). List price for everything was over $900.
On the bright side, subsequent semesters only have a book or two each.

Nursing I for Fall '05 = less than $200 :) I needed four books and found all four on half.com for extremely reasonable prices (as you can see from my total)!!
