  1. well I called up the Nuring Board and they were able to tell me I was approved and my new license number (6/26/08) Now waiting to receive my paperwork in the mail. I guess it takes a minimum of 30 days for the whole thing to go through. Thanks for your help everyone!
  2. I filled out the application for endorsement (NY going to LA) and am anxiously waiting. I did not apply for a temporary permit because that requires a LA address. I won't have an LA address until I work there as an RN, going to work at Tulane ASAP and they offer an apartment as part of the relocation package. All this waiting is making me nervous. Any advice?
  3. Does anyone know how long it takes on average to get a license by endorsement in Louisiana? I would have filled out the temporary permit but it requires an address and I won't have an address until I work in LA as an RN.
  4. I lived in NY all my life. The RN salaries are great here, I make about 68K a year. I will be getting almost 20K less by moving to LA but supposedly the cost of living is less there. I just want a change and really liked the New Orleans area.
  5. I've been to new orleans twice before and loved it. Thats why I want to work down there. I'm actually going for an interview @ Tulane at the end of the month and was hoping for some advice but no one seems to have any. I wish you lots of luck where ever you end up.
  6. No fair keeping secrets, I was looking into working at Tulane in New Orleans. I have an interview coming up and will probably relocate there. Any tips/suggestions?
  7. I did it! I graduated 12/06, got a job as an RN in 2/07 and today I bought myself a brand new car! It's the best thing (other than going to nursing school) I ever did for myself.
  8. I was hired as a new grad on permit to Coney Island Hospital in Feb of this year. (Brooklyn, NY) Salary for day shift is $61,527 a year. I have no dependants so taxes take over 33% of my salary.
  9. a + 98-100 a 95-97 a - 90-94 b + 88-89 b 85-87 b - 80-84 c + 78-79 c 75-77 c- 70-74 anything below a c is failing. tests = 60% of grade. final is 40% you can repeat one class if you receive a failing mark. if you fail a second class you are out of the program. this is for my school in ny. (kingsborough)
  10. Some nursing friends have just graduated this June with an ASN. One has already been offered a job at Sloan Kettering. 12 hour day shift. 62 K. She will have another nurse shadow her for the first 3 months. They choose the floor she works on the first year, afterwards she can choose. I can't wait until I graduate this December!! Update: During the initial interview she was told 62K. When she was called back they offered her 66K. She accepted the job and will start in October!
  11. Kingsborough Community College...... will graduate 12/06!!!
  12. I am very happy you got out of that situation. I used to work in a private office (for 6 years) until it merged with a clinic (1 year). That was the worst. The staff that came with the clinical physicians had the same attitudes. (taking long lunch breaks, taking time when they should be in the office working to go shopping, limitless 20 minute cigarrette breaks, etc, etc) I was outnumbered and exhausted with all the extra work and no appreciation. No office manager was ever there. The position was perpetually being filled by people who never showed up in the actual office. Finally I left. The clinic portion of the office was dissolved a year later. Hmmm, I wonder why? Yes I know that not all clinics are like this. This is just my personal experience. I just read your post and it all came back to me. Congrats on your new position!!!! :balloons:
  13. Still a nursing student but keep in touch with some grads. Maimonides hired 3 recent grads for the night shift. Starting salary for AAS was 62,000. 12 hour shifts. Dont know the ratios though.
  14. Graduating 6/06. 2006 Hybrid car with all the options maybe a tummy tuck
  15. Nursing books are always expensive so I always try to get used ones. Even then I pay around $75-100 per book. Sometimes an older edition is okay but you have to ask your professor. I use Half.com and Amazon.com. You can also try http://www.campusbooks.com Good luck!
