What is the worst thing you see on your floor? I always hate when people think OB nurses don't see bad stuff. For me the things that freak me out the most are HELLP, DIC x1, and shoulder distocias. We had one patient with a liver rupture which i guess if very rare! If I remember right she didn't have any prenatal care. She actually lived.
I work in the ER so I see a lot of bad things ... the most recent sad thing was a 32 year old man come into the ER due to a stroke, no major history that would bring this on ... the other was elder abuse, an 80-something year old Alzheimer's female that was made to sit into her own feces, urine, etc ... never to be moved out of her wheelchair in months ... between the lice and stage 4 ulcer ... and a smell that could clear the ER ....
Working in an oncology ward and having a client with a fungating anal tumour, and therefore had a colostomy, which swelled up so bad during radiation that it came out about 15cm and hung....poor patient was so distressed and was so depressed they refused to shower...whole place smelt so so bad...the type that clings to your clothes and hair...until we convinced them to let us take them for a shower in the really cool bath bed...theres some about hygiene that makes people a little happier...
When working L&D several years ago I took care of a patient that was told by multiple specialists her baby had multiple anomalies incompatible with life, to include little to no lung tissue and heart defects (can't remember what they were). She really truly thought the specialists were wrong. She came to the hospital with a car seat in the car, she let people from her church throw her a baby shower. Well, the specialists were correct. It was a heart breaking delivery.
I now work in wound care, have only been there for 2 months, I don't really have any horror stories yet.
Guys, since we are in the OB-GYN forum, I think the thread starter was talking about the worst thing seen in OB-GYN floor? (not absolutely sure though. :) )Back on topic: on my previous job, I would say 'the Nurse Manager'
True, but posts get moved around to the gereral forum......so you What is the worst thing you've can get answers from many different specialties......and she posted "seen on YOUR floor". :)

Dog hair and dust, and some muddy footprints. Oh, you meant the floor you work on?
