What is the most useless class you've had to take?

Nursing Students General Students

Ok, just curious what classes that you have been required to take that just make you ask WHY? I am taking American Government right now and I am so bored. And if I get one more person ask me why I am taking this for nursing I am going to scream? My answer is I guess they want me to know how to be politically correct, lol. Ok, so what's your thoughts.

English 305: Modes of writing.

I have to have this upper division writing class before they let me graduate in June because, and I quote my professor "Most of you took your english classes a few years ago, and need this refresher to remember the basics of writing papers." Huh?? I have been writing term papers the entire nursing program, I don't need a refresher!!

Art Appreciation..same boring slides..and the instructor is OBVIOUSLY NEVER prepared...5-15 minutes late for class each time and reads from the book...

19th Century plays and the study of social and cultural beliefs of the time. I took it as an elective and it has not helped me in any area of my life, yet. Ibsen was a man ahead of his time though. I did enjoy "a doll's house".

I have two: Freshman English, which I was required to take as a sophomore when I transferred to a different college. Of course my advisor didn't mention that I placed out of it from my high school achievement tests. The teacher acted like none of us knew how to put a sentence together. We went over punctuation, how to write a research paper, what a thesis is, etc. I wrote my first term paper in 7th grade!! I got an A, which luckily got me out of Senior English. So maybe the class had some use after all.

The other useless class I took was "Math for Elementary school teachers" back when I was considering getting a masters in Education after I graduated college. It was about numbers, what they mean, and how to do math. Most of the women in that class had no idea about math--it was such bullshyt and I didn't learn a thing. (I'm a math/science girl myself, took Calculas in high school. Yeah, I'm a geek.)

Education in the American School, required for anyone who wanted a teaching certificate. A complete waste of classroom space.

Specializes in Adult Med-Surg, Rehab, and Ambulatory Care.

Philosophy, without a doubt. I got absolutely nothing out of the class, didn't retain diddly squat, and couldn't even tell you what the name of the professor was.

Mine was Philosophy also. I was looking forward to taking it as I had started to take it once before but had to drop it when we moved. What made it so useless was my teacher. His name is Beloof and he is an idiot. All he did was come to class and talk about how great he is, how he is agnostic and thinks anyone who isn't is stupid, bring in Dave Barry columns, cartoons, etc. and just basically boost his own ego. After a few classes, I even stopped bringing my notebook as there wasn't anything important ever to write down. The only things I learned were what I learned from my own research for the required papers. I have even warned other people to avoid him. I have even been told that his speech and writing classes are just as useless. My lab partner in Microbiology this semester has him for 2 classes right now. I feel so bad for her.

Toss up between Technical Report Writing and my humanities elective (which I haven't picked yet but I can't see any of the choices as useful save perhaps Intro to Ethics.)

Chemistry. I know it was supposed to teach us stuff for nursing since it is geared for nursing students, but I got absolutely nothing out of this class.

I Dont understand why Humanities is required for my ADN RN but Medical Terminology isn't.

Dont get me wrong-- I appreciate the arts, but my AAS in Business didn't even require Humanities.

AAAARGH - impatiently working through pre reqs.
