What type of gross things do registered nurses have to do?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm going to get straight to the point.

Is it true that nurses have to change "poopy" diapers/patients and or deal with dead bodies?

I would love to get into nursing, but those are my deal breakers.

PLEASE HELP. All answers will be very much appreciated.

Don't be shy, and thank you in advance!

When my son was a toddler, he vomited in my face, including in my mouth. I figure if I can handle that, I can wipe someone's butt with no problem.

-Would employers view 18 year olds with an ADN as fresh-meat, with not enough "experience," or would they likely disregard my age as long as i'm qualified??

-Would you recommend me to pursue another career path, like Diagnostic Medical Sonography, if I refuse to have anything to do with dead bodies or wiping someones ***?

-Also, if you are a nurse, what is daily life like? Do you dread going to work?

Any other advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Keep in mind that I am only 16, and will be graduating high school early next month, June 5th to be exact.

Some nursing programs have a certain age minimum. But, if you could complete it at 18, then if you are qualified, you are qualified. All new nurses are fresh meat.

There are very few nurses that do not have to deal with hygiene or death. If you were going to land one of those positions, you will still have to have clinical rotations that include these tasks.

I wonder about clinical facilities allowing under 18yo

Actually I have checked in with my local community college, and the only requirements include a high school diploma, and prerequisites ofcourse ! :)

Sorry OP but you got more than 70 reply's to this very similar question already. If you refuse to do XY and Z don't go into nursing, it will be expected of you in clinicals.

Yes, I would. When you are a student you will not be allowed to "refuse" to do basic care in your clinicals. If your patient dies, you cannot "refuse" to have anything to do with their dead body. There are some nursing jobs where the amount of physical care is minimal, but you usually have to have a couple of years experience in staff nursing to land those jobs.

The thing is, I don't want a useless degree. Diagnostic Medical Sonographers tend to have a difficult time finding a job after graduation.

Ones that don't require bedside care, such as clinical informatics or MD Office. As previously mention, these positions require experience.
