hi,
which chemistry course did you take for your bsn for your accelerated or traditional program?
i am trying to understand the how acceptable chemistry for health science majors is. i am considering the schools listed below. those are the ones that i am strongly considering. i figure college chem i will transfer in.
any of you out there that took college chemistry and had to take another type of chemistry when admission told you it was not acceptable?
shenandoah university
marymount university
suny stony brook
suny downstate
i was shocked to find university of florida does not require any chemistry.
I took Inorganic Chem I & II, which I suppose was designed for all the medical professions. I took it 5 years ago when I thought I wanted to do chiropractic (that is before I ran screaming away from Organic Chem) ... but seriously, the nursing programs I am considering don't even need chem but I guess it's good to have taken it. They sure helped when we went over that brief chem chapter in A&P1.
Hi Tinediddy!
I hope chemistry ended up working well for you! I found this thread and noticed that I am taking my college chem 2 this summer for nursing school using your textbook. I was just curious how you liked the book, and ( if you felt comfortable) giving me an idea how it prepared you or how you generally did in the course. I am so nervous! Gen chem was really difficult for me at my old university, but I am taking college chem 2 at a reputable community college! :)
Thanks again and best of luck!
Through my community college, I took both general chemistry I (for health sciences) and contemporary chemistry (which means diddly squat at any other college).
Many years ago, I took general chemistry I and II, as well as organic chemistry I (all for biology majors) at the university. I started out in accelerated chemistry, which was designed for chemistry and chemical engineering majors...very...bad...idea.
I chose to retake general chemistry because 1) I needed an A, and 2) I plan on pursuing the RN-BSN after obtaining my ADN and the college-specific contemporary chemistry will not transfer.
I got a little carried away with chemistry and took General Chemistry I and II with labs, General Organic Chemistry with lab, and some odd Inorganic Chemistry class with a lab component that just happened to be open.
You have all of those classes under your belt at the age of 18? I'm impressed!

Tinediddy- My biochem book (which I still have cuz the bookstore didn't want it apparently...haha) is called General, Organic and Biochemistry (8th edition) by Bettelheim, Brown, Campbell and Farrell. If this is your book, it helped me a LOT for my biochem class. I don't know if that's the book you're talking about or not but... yeah. :)
