The federal govt shouldn't officially ordering or legislating what private companies should produce.  Just like they shouldn't cancel something they previously approved and then private company spent billions on.

They can strongly encourage.  Hannity is a bit over the top for me.  But, to his point,  Biden administration has tried to have talks with Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and others.  I haven't heard much about a dialog with US companies.

I don't see that the rhetoric is one sided. The oil industry AND the administration both have motives to present things that make them look better.  There has been debate here if Biden is anti-oil.  Even if he isn't, it's hard to argue that he does have to answer to some who are.

Like you said, we don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

I think you all give too much thought to the influence of Fox News.  The "most watched" news outlet is only 2 to 3 million a day.  I'm a zero to 3 hours a week.

I wish I could underestimate the Fox News Agenda.  Maybe living in Florida it's different because I hear them echoed in people all the time.

Perhaps Trump shouldn't have reversed the Obama decision not to build Keystone pipeline.  Perhaps the developers should have accepted fate under Obama.

I've already agreed that Biden has campaigned on being pro-climate change, which if you must can call that "anti-oil" and he's in bed with them.  He's defied them a time or two and they are quite unhappy with him.  But he counts on their support.

Speaking of Trump, I was talking to a patient and she said her daughter got a job with us because we don't require the vaccine like her nursing home job does.  Then she went on to say "I don't want to get political, but Trump is going to come back in a big way and DeSantis will be the Vice President and things will be great again.  I believe God sent Trump".  I didn't want to ask her why God made him lose because I'm sure she would say he didn't lose.

I heard a snippet of Hannity's interview with Trump recently and he said we should make it clear to Putin he "rebuilt our whole nuclear orificenal stronger, bigger, better than ever before...it's better and bigger than Russia...."

It sounds like cult level belief system, doesn't it?

It kind of does.  Like I've said before I can understand people wanting the conservative agenda of low taxes, low government spending, big military, etc. but when you start saying things like "he was sent by God", and that he won the election, and other conspiracy things, I can't help but think along those lines that "here is someone that is brainwashed".

I have seen though people come to terms with the Biden election.  They might now like it and are against his agenda and would probably vote for Trump again, they are not about that he's a Christian sent by God and the election was stolen.

Trump is still wildly popular, his rallies are well attended, and people running for office want him to campaign for him.  He's a force to be reckoned with.  I dread the thought of him running against Biden.

Trump is the de facto leader of Republicans and politically conservative voters.  Trump is a liar who tried to overthrow the election results and who continues to inflame his devotees with lies a about the election and our current president.

The GOP agenda as you described is more of a marketing concept than a governance template.  The GOP generally presides over tax relief for the wealthiest, deregulation of the dangerous and increasing federal deficits. GDP performance is better, typically, under progressive political leadership.

You didn't say what you thought about the article you shared. Do you think that the belief that there was fraud in the 2020 election (or some variation of the fantasy that the election was stolen from Trump) is an example of illusionary truth?

I think with the case of Trump saying over and over the election was fraudulent I think that he also has to have an audience that is willing to believe it.

He set up his base, even saying that if Clinton won it would be fraudulent, but when he won all was good with our voting system for four years.  Then he set them up again with the "if Biden wins, it will be fraudulent".  Trump's loss was such a blow and so unacceptable that when doubt was cast they were susceptible to the falsehood.

It was repeated over and over, not all of us bought into the idea.  I've heard it often enough but I still don't believe it.

What is disturbing is that it seems entrenched.  That in January 2022 40% of people believe that Biden didn't win.  They know this not because of any evidence but because of what has been told them over and over again.

Why can't US oil companies ramp up production, then?

Russia was the No. 2 oil producer in the world in 2021, pumping out 9.7 million barrels a day — but the US is No. 1 with 10.2 million. American companies don't abide by those OPEC-style, nationally mandated production targets. But US oil producers can't or won't fill the supply gap, even though they could make a mint given the high prices and demand.

Again here, Covid strikes. Like many industries during the pandemic, oil producers are struggling to find staffers and source specialized equipment. Meanwhile, US oil companies are still smarting from the pain of that major oil bust in 2020, which kicked off a flurry of bankruptcies. Major oil companies' stock performances have lagged the broader market since then too. And as makers of fossil fuels, they're wary that future environmental policies could hurt future demand for oil.

All of the above underscores how oil and gas prices are tied to geopolitical events, the pandemic, drilling logistics and so much more. And it adds up to average US gas prices above $4.33 a gallon as of Friday.

In short, it's all a simple case of supply and demand. But of course it's never really so simple.

Russian strike on military site near Poland kills at least 35, injures 134

An American journalist and filmmaker was shot to death by Russian military forces as Putin tests the Polish  border with Ukraine.

Do you think that Putin might feel like escalation is his best option...kind of like making a big bet trying to bluff people off of a poker hand/pot?

How ‘Z’ became a symbol for supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/03/09/letter-z-russia-symbol-pro-war/

World war Z is supposed to be a story about zombies.  I was reminded by my granddaughter the other day that Delores Reardon  (the Cranberries) wrote a song about war zombies.  It seems fitting in every way.

This seems like something that we should pay attention to as right wing extremism sets the world a tilt.

How far-right militia groups found a foothold in deep-blue California

Last month, the movement successfully recalled a Republican member of the Shasta County Board of Supervisors, a Redding native and former police chief. Supervisor Leonard Moty’s ousting means that the five-member board now has a far-right majority. Two open supervisor seats are up for election later this year.
What the movement will do with its increasing power remains unclear. But, just as it has across the country, its leaders have pushed against public health mandates and brought a sharp edge to once-civil local politics. Members, backed by the militia, have paid particular attention to Black activism, gun rights and rules preventing businesses from operating as they have wished. Homeless programs are also on the block.
