Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!
Lockdowns occurred in 2020 under Trump but were mostly done locally and by states. But they were also done around the world. It was a strategy largely adopted. It's a painful thought to think they didn't really do much to mitigate deaths according to this study. But hard lesson learned that this wouldn't be the way to proceed.
The right wants to blame Fauci and the left for the lockdowns that hurt people and want to rub the John Hopkins study in their face. Even Trump protege DeSantis locked down Florida (that had a huge and deadly surge when he ended the lockdown a few months later).
In the Summer of 2021 during the Delta surge Fauci and the President were not promoting lockdowns.
During the Omicron surge Biden was saying no lockdowns.
So yes, the lockdowns were not Biden lead. It's good to know and look back that lockdowns are not the way proceed during surges or when something similar happens again.
Remember this study is talking about deaths. It's not talking about infection rates, hospitals becoming overwhelmed and the high absenteeism and disruption to the work force that we recently saw with Omicron.
Vaccine mandates and masks are another story. Those are Biden's.

There's no concensus that lockdowns are ineffective. That was simply the opinion of that meta-analysis that has some problems.

Fauci did claim that lockdowns saved millions of lives. What was Dr "I am Science" basing that on?
True, everyone locked down for awhile. But the stricter and longer lasting mandates are definitely a liberal phenomenon.
Trump "protege"? Another poster made the silly comment that he was being "groomed" to be like Trump.
Maybe you all have forgotten DeSantis was in politics first, and served in Congress for awhile before Trump came along. De Santis is his own man.

Being open by Easter was overly optimistic but a realistic goal based on Fauci's claim that we needed a 14 day lockdown.

Everyone locked down for awhile? Is that true in your region? It wasn't true in my region.
What do you think that Fauci was basing his comments upon...are you unfamiliar with the traditional methods utilized to show the spread of contagions? Similarly, upon what do you think that Trump was basing his public statements about masking and distancing and general mitigation strategies in that same time period? Surely you've wondered why Trump suggested that ingesting bleach might kill the covid or somehow using in internal light treatments might help to keep American illness and death from covid low. How could one have so many concerns about what Fauci said at that time and not be flummoxed by the stuff coming out of Trump's mouth?
It sounds like you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the concept of political parties working to prepare a state politician for a presidential bid. We all know that Trump wasn't groomed for the presidency by the GOP. Trump wasn't and isn't a politician, he's a corrupt conman. DeSantis is his "own man" carefully crafting a public image to attract Trump's devoted voters.
"President Joe Biden’s no-border policy has detonated an explosion of illegal-immigrant apprehensions and got-aways at the southern “frontier.” Millions of Americans consider this one of Biden’s biggest failures, surpassed only by his utterly calamitous withdrawal from Afghanistan. However, this fiasco is Biden’s finest hour."

That's interesting. How you interpret Dr Fauci's remarks and intentions during the initial phase of this pandemic is much more strident and unforgiving than your interpretation of the remarks of the president at that same time. I wonder why.

A wide open border, eh?
Did you know that the NY Post is famous for its far right bias reflected in the frequently inaccurate and inflammatory articles and opinion pieces? This article was a good representation of the unreliability and intentionally divisive nature of the content found there. Is it, along with the Daily Wire, a daily or regular portion of your media consumption or did you just choose that for today's headlines and rhetoric on the border?

What is doesn't say is to what extent these are driving the costs, is it most of the costs? a small percenage, what? It doesn't mention other driving costs mentioned by most economists: supply and demand, OPEC deliberately keeping supplies low, etc.
The industry has long complained about regulation. But left to their own devices they would destroy the planet in my opinion.
Any move towards cleaner energy will be seen as having a negative effect on our addiction to oil and raising prices.
In my mind it's quite obvious that we need to move away from fossil fuels to cheaper forms of energy. But the trillion dollar oil industry and their stranglehold on world politics and policy won't let that happen in my lifetime.
Since when is a Koch brother or the Americans for Prosperity the arbiter of the truth? One might as well quote the Washington Examiner or the Daily Mail or the National Enquirer. They are all publications frothing at their mastheads.

He had a commercial of him playing "build that wall" with his toddler when he was running for office. Maybe not a protégé but he switched from his own path and but he plays the Trump playbook.

I remember reading studies at the time that said this as well, but I'm at work on lunch and no time to research. So he didn't make it up.

Again, attack the source rather than what it says. Typical liberal stance here.
