Can anyone suggest a particular brand/ model? I would like something moderate to high-end, but not digital, with good sound quality.

Littmann if you want good quality and can pay for it. If not spragues are good too. Check out the stethoscope forum on here for more info.

I have a Littmann and love it! Seems like it cost around $70, but I can't remember for sure.

I don't think it matters. I really wanted to get a Littman so that's what I got. I can't hear a whole lot of difference between mine and the disposable ones in the isolation rooms. The disposable ones hurt my ears, though.

i just ordered a littman cardiology iii from steeles.com, i have to have dual diaphragms, and they will engrave the diaphragm for you. the prices are not bad either. i ordered dog tags for identification also. heard too many stories about them walking, so i will be holding on tight.

Gotta swear by my Littman! I hear things so easy...and even through shirts...like when I have to check my grandmother's lung sounds...etc...

I use a Littmann Lightweight II S.E., and like it. Although I wish the tubing was longer. Cost me about $50 or so, iirc.

Although a lot of people promote Littman's, there are other, less expensive options. Try reading through the Stethoscope forum under the forums tab. There are a few alternative brands such as kila, grx medical etc. which are quality products for at least half the price.

I had a hard time hearing with my cheapo one from our bookstore, so I looked around for something else. I did my research online, debated between a littman or an ultrascope, and I decided to go with the latter. I am so glad that I did. That thing is amazing! I can hear everything with it. Everything. I love it, and I will never go to anything else. And another plus, it has cool designs on the head, so it's a great conversation starter with kids. :-)

I wanted to get an ultrascope because I thought they were so cool but I wasn't sure if I could use it for clinicals. Turns out, one of my instructors has one. lol I'd like to get one someday.
