What was your 1st RN job?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I start school for my ADN in a couple weeks. I am very excited to say the least...:yeah: I thought nurses were in high demand, but after reading these posts I am seeing that new grads are having a hard time getting hired. So I would like to know from everyone what was your first RN job? Did you have a ADN or BSN? Shift worked? And what type of facility was it? Also if you don't mind disclosing what was your initial pay?

Thanks for the info.....:heartbeat

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

Renal ICU after 3 months of working float in a hospital as there were no jobs.

Pay was around $11

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

still with my first job ;)

graduated in December 2010 with my BSN, passed the NCLEX in March 2011, got hired in June for a night shift position on a progressive care unit. My base pay is $23.50, but we have 2 differentials. From 1900-0000 the differential is +$3.52, then from 0000-0700 it goes up to +$5.87. When I work weekends, it's an automatic +$2.35 on top of the two differentials I get for working night shift. The pay is great, especially for being a new grad.

Specializes in Ambulatory Surgery, PACU,SICU.

My current job is my first RN job. Ambulatory Surgery and PACU at a hospital. 2nd shift, no weekends, no holidays:redbeathe

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

ADN, started at a LTC facility part-time in 2010 for $28 hourly. I got the job a few weeks after passing NCLEX because I personally knew the DON and decided to give her a call to see if she had any position available.

LVN/LPN, started at a LTC facility full-time in 2006 for $17.75 hourly. I found this job a day after receiving my temporary license in the mail.

Specializes in ED, Trauma.

I'm still with my first RN job :) I work in a Level I trauma ER/Graduated May 2010. Received job offer June 2010 (two hours before I took my NCLEX, talk about fabulous timing). I started out at 22.00/hr, which is pretty good base pay in my area. I work 7a-7p.

And will be heading off (hopefully!) to join the US Navy sometime this year! :)

I passed NCLEX in June 2011, then took 4 weeks off (flew to Europe to visit family and friends) and now I've been job hunting for a week, but had no luck so far. Just got a bunch of "NO's" from one hospital. Im already getting upset! Im lost and don't know where else to apply. How long does it usually take to hear back from companies whether they want to schedule an interview or not.

Im in Central FL and don't think there's a nursing shortage at all.

Hello.....I am not RN...I just graduated from LPN. I am so happy because i thinking...yeah, i will be working pretty soon but, unfortunately, I have a hard time finding a job. Many jobs posted but 99.9% looking for at least 1 yr experience. Is anybody can give me an idea/tips for finding a job? Thank you very much!!!! :)

Specializes in LTC Rehab Med/Surg.

ADN

LTC 3-11 shift 16 years ago. Found that job less than a month after graduating.

I loved, loved, loved it.

Every job I've had since is measured against that first job in LTC.

Thank you for the tip!!! :)
