Hello! We have a thread going on in the nursing student forum asking what we will do with our first real paychecks. LPN2Be2004 came in and told us how her spending changed once she got her first "nurse" paycheck
We are all over there thinking BIG TIME:chuckle ...cars and trips, yadda, yadda...but I loved her response. It's the little simple things like being able to buy Charmin instead of brand X toilet paper that I will love and appreciate. So, my question is: What did all of you do with your first nurse paycheck? How did things change for you?I bought good toilet paper ( the expensive kind, not the other stuff that will take rust off of a Buick bumper), a Venus razor, name brand shaving gel (instead of the 98 cent special), Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and expensive foundation.
LPN2Be2004, I hope you did not mind me using your reply:)
My first paycheck was almost $200 for 2 weeks work and man did we live it up! We went to the grocery store and filled the cart to the top. We bought all the hamburger meat that would fit in our little apartment freezer! Now mind you I had been making $2.90/hr as a student nurse and now was making $4.20/hr...yehaaaaa, we were in the big money then. As soon as my husband graduated from college we bought our first house for $18,500...3 bedrooms 1 1/2 bath, full basement on 1 acre in Douglasville, Ga. I guess I don't need to tell you that was a looooong time ago! Our apartment had been $150/month, but we thought we could probably meet the $225/mo house notes. Gee, those WERE the days! :rotfl:
Real clothes. I could never afford anything besides food and rent while I was in school, and I am one of 7 kids so I would feel so guilty if I asked my parents for money... So my first paycheck I marched off to the stores and bought nice dresses and summer shorts and shirts. I felt like a whole new person. I'm buying a new car soon too :) I can't wait.

I put a down payment on my Lexus Rx and me and my husband went out to celebrate getting through my first week working on the unit as a new RN. Now all the rest will go to a new home down payment! It feels good to finally live!!
Pokey!
