  2. ok I am a post-op nurse who started in LTC and who currently still works prn at my LTC. guess what i feel LTC is my easy job. it less stress than hospital to me .Yes i have 40 residents, but guess what i know them so well i can look at them and know if something is wrong. i have a little bond with each one of them. Geri is my love and my passion. the truth is that LTC is not for everyone. i have loved LTC since clinicals. LTC can only run well i find also if u have a good relationship with your Cnas they are the back bone of a good LTC. u have to know you can depend on them to check the pt b/p and temp if you put it on thier assignments. If you truly like LTC give it time it will get easier, but if you hate it its not for you. bottom line is u either love it or hate. ps on the other hand i am still trying to feel as confident as a post-op nurse, but i know i like it so i know it time, i will be a awesome nurse, you have to believe in yourself;)
  3. i live in louisiana and wow out here we are hired just as much as the rns.
  4. 1. Are you allowed to have your own patients? How many patients can you have partnered? Yes i am allowed to have my own patients. we do not partner and we have 4-5 pt daily. 2. If you are paired with an RN - what duties do you do and what does the RN do? We are not paired, the only thing different between a lpn and rn on my floor which is post op is they do all the pushes and start the blood. oh yeah and they charge which i tell ya . i really don't want to to. even after i get my RN 3. Are you allowed to do the assessment on the patient? Does the RN sign off on it? i do all my assessment and a rn does not sign after me. The pt is my responsibility. 4. How does your day go? my day is busy doing everything from admiting to dischargeing, assessing my pt, to calling doc, passing med, starting ivs, giving iv medication, pulling jp tubes, removing and inserting ng tubes. monitoring pca pumps etc. Hey I am a post op Nurse:lol2: 5. What state do you work in? I live in Louisiana
  5. LPN was my choice because to be honest i was not sure I could get through nursing school being a married mother of 2 kids. I did not kow if it would strain my home well school is a strain but i made it. I Also picked this route because where i live (louisiana) the LPN are not as limited in there scope so even though I am not an RN I can do so much with my license here
  6. No i do not regret becoming a LPN and yes i am looking into going back to school for my RN. I don't regret it because of where i live. I live in louisiana our scope is so broad. We can do any thing but push a IV med and start a blood transfusion. So I am capable to utilize :lol2:my skill and actually learn more because i don't have so many limitation;)
  7. U see this is why i did not do TCN. Me and 2 of my friends went speak to one of thier reps. They sign immediately. i could not make my self do it:nono:. Now here we are 2 years later and they have only taken 1 test because they can not either motivate them self to read the horrible study guide that i quote they say is "so boring" or they are just to busy to get to it. This would have been me. I need some one to say hey there is a test friday, hey this due wednesday. I wish u the best and hope you find a way to get what you need.
  8. I did a hospital base LPN program, but many of my friends did a vocational program ,they felt they got a good education.
  9. its amazing how we all believe we have failed it.
  10. I say if you like psych take the psych job. i did LTC and i loved it , hell i still love it. But i am going to the hospital next week to do post op. I know i will miss LTC so I am still going to work a couple days a pay period at my LTC. So my suggestion is to do what you love.
  11. priceless loll
  12. LTC at 14.20 a hour, but just took pay cut to go to hospital
  13. thanks, i am hoping I actually do work my big patooty off loll;)
  14. Thanks everyone for the info. I am so excited about what i will learn and how i will grow as a nurse!!!
  15. It is not PACU, so i am guessing it is a surgical floor. As far as orthropedics thank goodness we have a floor just for that at the hospital. I kinda figured that this would be busy floor. loll
