What is that smell?

Not asking for medical advice here!

I have a 16 yr old son. When I go into his room(when I feel brave) :uhoh3: there is this, smell, odor? I can't place it for the life of me. He is my only child so I have no comparison. IT is not BO or a sick smell. Just is there! Is this a teen boy thing? Maybe its his feet? He showere, deodorant and all(if anything he uses TOO much cologne etc...)

Just wondering!

Oh THE SMELL! My 16 y/o has the same thing......i've learned never to enter without FEBREZE......I've crawled around on hands and knees smelling carpet, smelled the sheets, under the bed, the trash can, you name it.....it's just there. Can't identify it, not really a bad smell.....but peculiar. Must be the hormones

WOW!!! I am so happy to have found this post.......... I have a teenage boy, and I can't figure it out either! I am with the post with the Lysol. I enter the room with the can......spray the shoes, the computer keyboard, door knobs, soccer shin guards, backpacks, gym bags, EVERYTHING! Can't get rid of it. I say it's his head. He has long hair, sweats, and it just stinks. And the cologne.... uggggg...I finally told him yesterday he had to bring it in his bag, and spray it outside, as it gags me. I even went to the extent to buy him expensive cologne, that smells good, he'd rather the cheap ****. I am surprised I even liked teenage boys when I was a teenager. I do make sure to tell him how proud I am of him, and how much I love him, and we talk ALOT, but I also don't forget to tell him HOW to shower.......... YEAH THE COLOGNE IS THE AXE STUFF, I JUST CHECKED>>>>>>>>>> EWWWWWWWW

I have three teenage boys, 18, 16, and 4. Man oh man do I know exactly what you're talking about.

I just don't have the words........

to the Mom's who have survived this; how long does it last?

This is so funny. I don't have any boys (1 girl), but my mother-in-law raised all boys (bless her :redbeathe ). This thread reminds me of a small picture she has hanging on her wall that gives the perfect definition.

BOY(noun): A noise, with some dirt on it. ;)

I think it's feet. I am almost 30 and I still remember that funky smell my brother had when he was a teenager.

I do not have a son, only a daughter.

What did make me laugh however was a piece of advice given from one of the mothers at her school to another;

You always offer to drive the boys TO football practice. You don't offer to drive him and his friends HOME from football practice.

:rotfl: Oh my gosh! This is sooooo true! :rotfl: I have six grandsons...two who are teenagers. One day, I picked them up from football and basketball practice, and could hardly stand the stench during the ten minute drive back to their home. :rotfl:

I raised three daughters (also have six granddaughters), and have never smelled anything bad or stinky on them, or in their bedrooms. I'm finding out that boys are "stanky" and NEED lots of daily showers when going through puberty. I have a stepson that lived with me for a year when he was a teenager........same problem. Just couldn't put my finger on the odor, but it was distinct. :uhoh3: God bless mothers of sons everywhere because I can't stand "body odor" that's funky, or bedroom odors that are funky. Heck, I can't stand funky odors period!

the odor may be dirty laundry laying around too. I make my son pick up and air out his room daily, even if it's 42 deg out. Otherwise STINKY.

Wonder if girls are stinky to guys?

I have a teen son and DH and I noticed a distinct aroma on his bedsheets and pillowcase. He is cleaner than his little brother who has not yet entered puberty but definitely smells! :) I like the one about the definition of boy. Describes my younger son to a tee! Boy(noun) a noise with some dirt on it. LOL!

IT is not BO or a sick smell
Are you sure it is not marijuana? He is at an age when this should be considered.

ROFL. I raised 2 boys and have also experienced the pall that hangs over their sleeping quarters. I've wondered about it, but I think the answer will be like seeing those electron micrographs of the super tiny insects that live various spots on your body.
