Nurses Relations

Published

I don't know what made me remember this but I had a coworker once with whom I had developed(I thought) something of a rapport. Well one day we were in the nurses' station and I jokingly made a comment about her not working hard. I forget my exact words but it was something along the lines of are you hardly working or working hard. You know that lame joke, well not that lame but it was harmless like that. Well a few days later, guess what I got invited to a meeting with her and the charge nurse to discuss my attempt to slander her! She said that she felt like I had a low opinion of her as a nurse and my comments left it open for people to believe that she was not a hard worker. And I was attempting to destroy her reputation as a nurse. As broadsided as I was, I apologized profusely for my faux-pas but she wasn't in a forgiving mood. So *shrug* what could I do? Obviously we weren't as good of friends as I thought or she might have given me the benefit of the doubt. Also she must have had a massively low self-esteem or insecurities if she was that bothered by my little joke. I just moved on. I can remember being quite annoyed at first but it's funny now.

When I was a CNA years ago, I was told my shoe laces were not tied correctly and was told to re-tie them the proper way. ( I double knotted them because they were too long). If it ever happened again, I was going to be written up.

of course this was back in the day when a nurse showed up for work in suntan colored panty hose and was told to go home and change them because they were inappropriate.

I have been told I am too cheerful!

LOL, one of my co-workers got a negative yearly review because of his "unnecessary glee." I kid you not.

Was he singing show tunes during assessments?

Was told by my patient that I was not allowed to give her a rectal suppository anymore. Evidently when I gave it to her, she had no results and told the staff I must have put it in the "wrong spot".

on my first nursing assignment after graduation, i was mentored by a very knowlegeable, usually kind nurse who was, i think, a contemporary of clara barton.... or maybe even an army nurse at valley forge?? it offended her greatly that i never polished my %^&* shoelaces when i polished my

shoes. each time, she'd let me know she'd mentioned it to the head nurse. i guess she must have mentioned it a lot because that was the only criticism on my whole evaluation!

now it's simply a silly memory, but back then it rankled. a. lot.

I, too, have received complaints of being both "too cheerful" and "grumpy", of being "too tall", and once a patient complained TO MY BOSS because I wouldn't let him keep his urinal on his table with his food. The cheek of me! ;)

EEWWW, and this happens to be one of my pet peeves!!! I have had to talk to CNA's about doing that very thing!

(of course, this reminds me of the nursing school party a many years ago when we drank beer out of clean urinals...at least I hope they were clean:D)
