Hey everyone. Just wondering how my license will look after probation. I will have a permanent mark on my license since I am in the disciplinary section and not the nurse recovery program. Will it just show "history" or what? Will there be details?
I was already employed as an infection control nurse when I was placed on probation. I told my DON that I was being placed on probation for a previous alcohol and opiate addiction from back in 2016. She was very understanding and is gladly doing my quarterly evals that the Bon requires.

While I hope I don't get judged for my minute infraction I also plan on staying at my hospital due to the pension which only 1 other hospital has and the fact that it's one of the busiest and most difficult hospitals in the state. I'm also unionized so I really couldn't all for better.

Was the union able to help you keep your job?
thanks!

The union really isn't the issue. It's more so an issue with the nurse manager. I spoke to an attorney and he said it would show when the infraction occurred. On the application, I'm honest entirely. If I speak with a nurse manager for an interview I don't bring up that I was disciplined which hasn't been an issue so far. The reason I don't bring it up isn't that I'm trying to hide it. You can look me up and see it. I don't bring it up because I was honest with my application. They ask on the applications "Have your license ever been on probation?" and it never was so I put no, "Have your license ever been suspended?" and it never was so I put no. If you look me up I have been disciplined, but I did answer their questions correctly and honestly. If they change their applications to "Have you ever been fined by the BON?" I would put yes and explain, but I'm honest with the application.
I was disciplined for failure to disclose an arrest that I was found guilty for a municipal ordinance 20 years ago. It's not on the level of narcotic diversion or improper patient care. It's like me saying "Hey I am not on the list where medicare bans me!" (There is a list of RNs that is banned by medicare. I can't remember the name of the list) or telling the nurse manager, "hey, I just wanted to mention I don't have a criminal record!!" it's not something I think that is really to bring up.

May I ask how you bring the topic up and how a typical conversation goes when you do? I'm preparing for these conversations myself.
