I have been on this site for a couple of months now. I attend Baker College of Owosso's nursing program. All I hear about on this page is Oakland. Just wanted to know what schools does everyone else attend.

I am currently in the University of Michigan's Accelerated Second Career Nursing Program and I can honestly say that it is horrible. Unless you are ok with mass disorganization, unclear expectations, the bottom of the clinical barrel (the local community college and traditional students currently get all the best placements), being treated like a traditional student (rather than a second career student...it is like they never heard of "adult learners"), and dealing with faculty who are not familiar with the technology they teach, then I would recommend going to a more established program.

Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek here. Currently in my second semester of the ADN program.

I'm currently in my second semester of the nursing program at OCC. The program is challenging, but I have to say I love it. Theory and lab get to be too much a lot of the times, but I am learning so much in my clinical. I just keep telling myself, it will all be worth it

I am currently registered at Mott Community College, however I have attended 3 different schools at various times in 4 years, Oakland University, OCC, and Macomb Community College. So far, I have enjoyed all schools. I am currently finishing pre req's. for different schools so I can apply to as many as possible. Anyone heard anything about Saint Clair Community College nursing programs, any advice about admissions or anything?

I graduated from MCC some time ago. I thought it was a GREAT program. Really prepared me for my job at the time (I worked in a Trauma Center there in Flint).

I have heard that the SCCC program is HARD, HARD, HARD!!!! :uhoh3:

Good luck!!!!

my friend and years later, her daughter, went to SCCC and they said that it was super hard!!

How do you like OCC's program. I met with a counselor a couple of months ago, and she said IF I get, Intro. to Chem, a Phys. Ed, and Political Science done THIS summer- I have a very good chance of getting in for fall of 2007. That's a long time, but compared to the admissions at other schools it not long at all. Do you have any advice? I have been in school for 4 years now, and while everyone else is graduating--I am still waiting! I want to be SURE I get a spot. Any good Chem instructors? Words of advice for applying? Etc. Etc.

Thanks in advance,

How do you like Baker's program? I live outside of Cadillac and have been begging them to bring the nursing program. I already have a two year degree in medical transcription from them, but am looking for a change. So far I have been told MAYBE 2008 for the actual NUR classes. I really enjoyed Baker previously. Thanks for any info!

Lansing CC here. Hi AnnaN5! I hope you get in too!!

I'm jealous of you UofM people..that's where I want to go..but I'm going to get my ADN and then commute to A2 and do the RN-MSN program there to get my NP.

Specializes in AGNP.
Michigan State University -- traditional program, new curriculum -- and would not recommend it..

What do you dislike about the program? I am surprised by how many people said they didn't like the program. I have my BS in Human Biology from MSU and was considering going back for either the traditional or Accelerated BSN but chose to pursue LCC instead.

As an RN who is now doing MT work I would seriously rethink nursing school. I mean, having a job you can do from home? No one peeing on your shoes? No one throwing up in your pockets? :lol2:

I LOVE MT work and I don't know if I'll ever go back to nursing!!!! (by the way, tried to PM you and couldn't )

I just saw a posting in the Traverse City newspaper for a Director of the Nursing program in Cadillac so maybe you'll get your wish!!!!

I'm a first year Paramedic and Nursing student at Lake Superior State University up in Sault Ste. Marie. I haven't done too much with the nursing program, just advising and pre-reqs, but I'm finishing my EMT-B from the paramedic program, and will be getting my EMT-P next year, and I have been amazed by the program here. The professors are very friendly, I've gotten to know everyone here, the school will work around you and let you change things and take classes that you need, the clinical sites are friendly, and although low volume, you get to be very hands on, often doing all the procedures while the hospital/ambulance staff watches over you. Only downside, I've spent 12 hours sleeping in the back of an ambulance praying, in vain, for a call.
