I was wondering when you applied to HFCC, when you got your acceptance letter, and what is your start date? I am looking to apply by the fall semester this year, I only have the NET test to complete and get my transcripts sent over. how long currently is the wait? would I get in my fall or winter of 08?

How long did all of you wait before getting accepted into the program? I am getting ready to apply, any chances for acceptance in 2008?

On a different subject regarding OCC, how long did you wait to get accepted there? Once you completed all of your pre-req's when did you apply and when did you start? Were all of your classes completed at OCC? I applied this April, I know I am not accepted this fall, but I wonder how good my chances are for 2008?!? I would hate to wait more than 1 1/2 years! Any tips on getting as soon as possible? Here any situations where people waited more than a year? Any advice or experience is helpful! Good luck with your nursing career!

I am here just to clarify a couple things about OCC's acceptance system. Yes, some things are changing for fall 2008 admission. There will be a gpa competitiveness, however they are still going to be going by priority 1. Which is having all pre-req's done and the date at which applicants completed them. The GPA will be considered afterwards.

I am just confirming... Starting in 2008, they will be admitting based upon pre-req GPA, however, they are still going to admit based on the initial system. Priority I, priority one is the date in which you completed the pre- requisites for the nursing program. Once they get a group under that, they will go by the GPA of those classes. There is not a wait LIST, never really has been, but they are just trying to narrow down the chances of getting in. Most likely as long as you have a 3.0 and up, you should wait approximately a year to get into OCC. Anyone else disagree? Or have a different experience? Let me know, thanks!

Is there openings still? I am willing to relocate anywhere, anytime just to get into an RN program without a wait! I am almost 23, and getting a real itch to start my life as a....grown up, I guess you could say? I have never heard of Keiser College, I will check it out online, but for now, let me know what you need to apply and stuff. Thanks so much in advance!

She is correct, there is no NET exam or HESI. There are some pre-req's that have to be completed BEFORE applying to the school of nursing however. They are located on the school's website, but I HIGHLY recommend seeing a counselor at the school of Nursing at OCC. They will go through a checklist of classes and things you need to have completed before applying. She is also correct when saying that there is no wait-list. If you apply and do not make it in, you need to reapply the next year. Applications are accepted May of every year. However, that is it. Just make sure you have all the classes done. I looked on the web-site and I though I had everything taken care of, but there are high school requirements too, that really set me back. I am not sure how long I will wait to get in the program, but I have heard that generally people apply 2 times before acceptance. Admissions goes by, the date you finished your pre-req's, then how many of them completed at OCC, lastly, GPA. I will finish my pre-req's this fall and will apply by May. I am looking at starting sometime in 2008, and that is if all goes well! I am not sure exactly about the wait though! I have heard a lot of different things! Hey Jen- I think I have spoke to you on and off about OCC's nursing program. While I am attending OCC and going towards my ADN, I am also going towards my BSN. By the time I am done with either, or both, I think more and more employers will higher a BSN, RN, before an ADN, RN. NOT saying at all that an ADN, RN will not get hired, but the BSN will be priority. I know on Beaumont's websites 8 out of 10 nursing openings prefer a BSN. I think if a nurse wants to be choosey about the unit and or field she or he works in, she would be smart to get the higher education. By all means I don't think a BSN makes a better nurse or visa versa. But you definitely will be priority with a BSN. I am 22, been going to school for 4 years, I might as well shoot for the BSN, the sad part is...It's so competitive. I don't know if my GPA is good enough right now! Anybody know anything about Oakland University's nursing program. The competitiveness, admissions system, etc. Any insight will be helpful!

Welcome, I am an OCC student currently also! Will be finished with my nursing pre-req's after this fall semester. Unfortunately, the wait is horrible here at OCC, and I have heard reapllying 1,2,or 3 times until you are admitted is not unheard of. So after the fall semester I will be finishing up Oakland University's pre-nursing requirements. If I have to wait that long, I might as well wait, and get a BSN. As for the evening programs you are asking about, Oakland University has a part time program which may be helpful to you. To all those OCC or Oakland University students out there, can anyone give me any insight about the admission status for either or both schools. I am not completely familiar with OU's status for admits. Any help would be nice. Thanks

no rdhnursing student, you are not the only one. I haven't even applied yet and have been told i would most likely wait until 2008 to get accepted. this school even accepts over 200 students a semester. I will apply in may...they only take applications once a year, however i will be done with my pre req's this summer. this is my 4th year of school so it is really frustrating.

I feel all of your pain! I am not even positive I will get a spot in 2007! I will be finishing up everything to apply to Oakland Community College (in Michigan) this summer. Except for my one anguish...Chemistry. I will retake that class for a better grade in the winter. I cannot apply until May of 2007, but that means I had my pre-req's done a year before that date pretty much. So I don't know, its confusing, upsetting, depressing and giving me an ulcer!! I am 22, and have been going to school for 4 years, have abou 75 credits under my belt...and I am still trying to get my associates. Hopefully, all of this will be worth it! Anyone have any experience applying or being admitted into OCC?

i might be interviewing soon for a nurses assistant for a rehab unit. i haven't heard a lot of good things in regards to rehab units in hospitals on this forum. i have no experience, just got done with my cna class, and have had a few days of clinicals in long term facility. is this a good unit to start out on? i don't to have my first experience a bad one! any advice, your opinion on accepting a job offer on another unit, or etc? anyone know exactly what I will be responsible for as a nurse aide on this unit?

That is all good to know, are you speaking about Oakland Community College though, or Oakland University? What do you mean toughest GPA program? Grading wise you mean? Or competitive admissions by GPA? Oakland Community College goes by first come first serve for admissions, that is the best way I can explain it, the sooner you apply, the sooner you get in. Did you graduate from OCC?

I will be finishing up all of my pre. req's(and then some), this summer so I will be applying to OCC's ADN program whenever I can after the semester. I have not yet attended an info. session, (will be going to one in June) and haven't taken the Math proficiency test either. So, just a few more things. However, my main concern is... if and when I will be accepted into the program. For all of you who have experience in this, if I apply after this summer semester, what are my chances of starting the program in the Fall of 2007. Or do you think most likely I will have to wait until 2008? Any info. will be appreciated! Feel free to PM me.

you are not an rn now? i checked out the website but not understanding how the school works. you take all of your classes online, and have your clinicals at a facility near where you live here in mich.? at the end of every semester you travel to st. louis to take your exams? do i have this correct? how are you liking it? are you getting the clinical experience you need? did you start right away? clear these things up when you get a chance, i have never heard of this. thank you ashley
