What would you say?

Hi there,

I am in my first year and was looking after a toddler the other day when his mum reached for her bag and took out a foam hat. She put it on the 1 year old and turned to me and asked, "do you like his Thudguard safety hat? It's to stop the bumps and bruising on his forehed because he keeps falling over."

I didn't know what to say, I guess its a good idea but what would you have said? Is it a tad over protective?

thanks

Cuddlebugs

1st year and counting..........

seriously though, i think the star band has a more useful purpose than simple thuds to the head when learning to walk, or is there something i am missing here? also, where do you come up with a name like www.thudguard.com when you are thinking of what to call your website - apt or what? ;)

Its a product from the UK. Pricey due to the exchange rate. I think they are kinda cute with the little ears and all! They should make one that looks like a ladybug!

I can safely say my poor mom would have had a whole set of 'em for my brother- that kid was brutal. Back then the ER knew us all by name as she had to probably tow all us kids there on a monthly basis.

Heck he even fell UP the stairs and needed stitches and cracked his head open a couple times somehow in BED! We called him evel kinevel (this was the 70s).

A US company will pick this up and run with it soon I am sure.....

I wonder what percentage of kids whose parents spend so much time protecting them grow up to be the young adults indulging in "extreme sports"?

Saying this as the mother of a son who rock climbs, white water rafts, mountain bikes, skis black diamond runs, dives, etc.,etc., etc...

Yep - my oldest does things now that makes me cringe! But I have wondered if many bumps and thuds to a toddlers head may cause issues later in life such as learninging difficulties or become slow when it comes to, "What is right and what is wrong". I posted another thread on this; basically, death row people were disected and they found that they had all suffered frontal head lobe trauma at some stage in their life and they are linking this to the inability to understand moral dilemas. Its just something I read but it does make you wonder!

This mother might as well purchase the baby a protective Kevlar suit to match with the hat.

My friends son wears one..

But hes only 1 and a hemophiliac so it is def. for safety!

Otherwise, I'd say she was overprotective!! I'm still here - and I did crazy things as a kid - we climbs trees like there was no tomorrow..I'm so surprised now that I didnt fall and break something!!

even though i can understand the teasing in wearing protective garments, i was definitely one of 'those' neurotic moms whose heart fell to her feet, a million times and then some.

and so, i see nothing wrong in having your kiddos wear thudguards, or any other type of protection.

now, if only they had something for my nerves...
