You Tube Video on Baby Helmet
No, but seriously, can it really do that much harm to bash a babies melon now and then? Surely its a right of passage to end up in ER for each and every one of our offspring aint it? DONT SHOOT me.......... I dont have any bubs yet and before I left OZ for the US, I didnt want any but I would like it one day and my friends say I dont know what I am in for........... Is it really that essential to protect their heads when learning to walk? I was taught to let them fall and find their on way!

Thumbguard -V - Thudguard?
Now what would be a good idea is if the thudguard and the thumguard partnered up and sold together - throw in a bubble wrap suit and you have a remake of the elephant man waiting to happen!

Thumbguard -V - Thudguard?
Talked with a patients mum today about the thumbguard and she surprised me by becoming very excited that there was such a product and quickly asked me for more information. Apparently she had been trying to get her 7 year old to stop sucking her thumb for years and would have paid any amount to have this sorted out! Well who knew? I guess you really have to be there at the time!

Thumbguard -V - Thudguard?
Sorry Danissa - my mistake. But according to the Thudguard website, over 500,000 head injuries occur in the UK every year so the accident and emergency sure see a lot of these wee lads and lassies! But then it is them who endorse it!

Thumbguard -V - Thudguard?
Well actually Mike, if you check the website (inventor page www.thudguard.com) - you will see that she comes from SCOTLAND!!!!!!!!! There must be a few wee laddies and lassies toddling around Scotland wearing them before the US would start selling them!

Thumbguard -V - Thudguard?
On my last thread, a nurse predicted that the Thudguard baby bump hat (selling in the UK), would soon be picked up in the US - and surprise, surprise! Looks like someone is selling them on eBay in the US now! Well that didn't take long - very clever nurse! http://search.ebay.co.uk/thudguard_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQfromZR40

Thumbguard -V - Thudguard?
Hi all, After my last thread I accidently typed in the wrong word when showing a family the website for Thudguard (as their little 8 month old girl came in with a split forehead), I typed in the wrong "Thumguard" instead of "Thudguard". This brought up a totally different product but I would like to rate them against each other and see if your opinion comes out the same as my work mates. 0 - 10 with 10 being very useful product and 0 being absolutly stupid! www.thudguard.com - V - www.thumbguard.co.uk

What would you say?
Yep - my oldest does things now that makes me cringe! But I have wondered if many bumps and thuds to a toddlers head may cause issues later in life such as learninging difficulties or become slow when it comes to, "What is right and what is wrong". I posted another thread on this; basically, death row people were disected and they found that they had all suffered frontal head lobe trauma at some stage in their life and they are linking this to the inability to understand moral dilemas. Its just something I read but it does make you wonder!

What would you say?
seriously though, i think the star band has a more useful purpose than simple thuds to the head when learning to walk, or is there something i am missing here? also, where do you come up with a name like www.thudguard.com when you are thinking of what to call your website - apt or what?

When is a baby head bump serious?
Hi there, Spinning off from an earlier thread - I mentioned that in the course of my daily work, a mum of a 1 year old patient being over protective (I thought), by making him wear a protective bump hat (see www.thudguard.com) - well the thread had mixed responses as you can imagine! Thing is; as a parent myself, we dont ever get educated on the 24 hrs symptoms to look for in a baby head injury, i.e., vomiting, drowsiness, dont need to tell you obviously, but when do the general public, if at all, ever get to know this valuable information? Usually only when they show up at ER with a split head! The reason I ask is; someone posted the above website link and I noticed, after me mocking the product, that they offer free advice on head inury of babies and what to look for. You just dont see this in the doctors surgery or drug store like the advice on Vaccinations etc..... and when do you really know, as a care provider, when it is really serious and will constant bumps and bruises of a child cause long term affect, such as learning difficulties or much later on in life, moral dilemas? I read once that, murderers who had their brian examined, showed that at one time or another they had suffered from front lobe damage - and thus their capacity for right or wrong was questioned! Boxers for instance - I know they suffer big blows but repeated small thuds...... see where I am going with this! Do you know what I mean?

Funny - Why is it that people say they.............
:bugeyes:Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up every two hours? If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing? Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are flat? Why do banks charge a fee on "insufficient funds" when they know there is not enough? Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet? Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection? Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard? Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him? Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Whose idea was it to put an "S" in the word "lisp"? What is the speed of darkness? Are there reserved parking spaces for "normal" people at the Special Olympics? If the temperature is zero outside today and it's going to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold will it be? If it's true that we are here to help others, what are the others doing here? Do married people live longer than single ones or does it only seem longer? Do you cry under water? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground? Did you ever stop and wonder...... Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these pink dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?" Who was the first person to say, "See that chicken there... I'm gonna eat the next thing that comes outta it's bum." Why do toasters always have a setting so high that could burn the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer? Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don't point to their bum when they ask where the bathroom is? Why does your Obstetrician, Gynaecologist leave the room when you get undressed if they are going to look up there anyway ? Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs ! Can blind people see their dreams? Do they dream ?? If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests? (This one kills me !!!!) If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from ? If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons ? Why do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune? Stop singing and read on . . .. . . . . . . . Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup? Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him on a car ride, he sticks his head out the window? Does pushing the elevator button more than once make it arrive faster?

What would you say?
Hi there, I am in my first year and was looking after a toddler the other day when his mum reached for her bag and took out a foam hat. She put it on the 1 year old and turned to me and asked, "do you like his Thudguard safety hat? It's to stop the bumps and bruising on his forehed because he keeps falling over." I didn't know what to say, I guess its a good idea but what would you have said? Is it a tad over protective? thanks Cuddlebugs 1st year and counting..........
