What would say to a nurse shadowing you

Nurses General Nursing

Published

If you had a nurse who was not registered in your jurisdiction and thus could not have patient contact, how would you interact with them? Preferably paediatric nursing but general ward is fine. I am English teacher and wish to put some real content into my lesson. Thanks in advance.

And I totally understand why!!

The answer to that question is that I was attached to a nurse high school in Japan to teach English. I was forced out after one term but I was trying hard to find relevant content at that time.

Um, not true. You've been asked COUNTLESS times to explain WTH your role in this visit is!

It seems not only can't you speak/write English, you also cannot comprehend it!

I will avoid Georgia because they have sarcastic arrogant nurses- nursing is not your thing because you think you know everyone's job and yet can't ask intelligent questions- not one person asked me to re-express, explain or say me original OP a different way.

I really think that you are the wrong choice to be involved in anything political. You just may be the sole reason that a global disturbance occurs--now wouldn't that be a feather in your cap, career-wise?! It may be what you end up being best-known for!

People are missing that requested dialogue is only for teaching purposes only- it is not a script for him to any way use in practice. So you are saying you don't know what you say to student nurses or anyone else that is a legitimate shadow so I'll make something up that you can't manage to do.

As far the purpose of this trip, I think its political and networking. As far as I can tell with some copied emails, the big boss knows some senior person in Sick Kids and wants everyone to know how connected he is. English is sexy in Japan so they don't take it seriously. However the nurse himself wants to gain something from the trip- maybe there are opportunities to have private chat with another nurse where an interpreter isn't available so this would help him then.

Are people happy with having an arrogant nurse either to treat them or work with them- someone who acts like they know everyone's job? I have never met a constantly sarcastic nurse.

I think the OP is for real... I don't think we are being trolled. They had a post a few years ago that was similar. That makes me all the more confused. The older post was actually better written and easier to understand also.

OP has one of the vaguest and strangest job descriptions I have ever heard of.

I love you.

Well, now you have. You can cross that one off your bucket list. You're welcome.

Is English (technical) teacher a strange job description? I am not going to US or Canada probably ever- nothing I wrote indicated that I was. I have nothing to do with the hospital that is sending him overseas. I work for him alone so I am not in the middle of anything political. I don't remember one question about my role in this entire thread- not that I read all of it? Today I found out that he is being asked to read and understand the equivalent of 2 chapters in a high level technical medical textbook- one is Ethics in Pediatrics. One paragraph was on heliox treatment of asthma. Enough with your boring sarcasm- how about "Nurses lynched when discovered to not care about anyone"

To JustBeachyNurse,

Only rude when you started it. I asked nicely many time. Getting hold of nursing text in English- how do I do that please for free- I am not paid enough for that? There is very little of that in Japan. Apparently someone listed some particular to posts to look at but how do I find them all this bloated thread -another good reason to discourage people to not write garbage replies. I only asked for real life experiences not something from a textbook which may not exist.

Forming a lynch party, are you? Interesting tactic (as a response to getting all butt-hurt when anonymous strangers on an internet message board don't meet your needs). Wake me when you get here. Oh, wait. I'm in the US.

I was neither rude nor did I "start anything" You were rude from the start to Dishes who offered you multiple options and links . Even did your research for you about the facility. I simple explained that your request was not realistic especially in a fluid field such as critical care pediatrics. Children are not little adults and every day, sometimes every hour is different and one must adjust to the observations, assessments and patient response.

You cannot legally get a current copy of an English (Canadian or American) nursing textbook without paying for access. Most nursing textbooks include real (as in actually occurred) case studies, so yes nursing texts include real life experiences. So do journals and other nursing publications, especially in pediatrics. Expecting a Japanese nurse who is not fluent in English to read and comprehend a nursing text and ethics text with likely a Lexile score of 1500+ is unrealistic as most ELL have a decoding & comprehension level around 500-700.

You may be able to access MedScape for free overseas (might be limited only to US users per their site ToS) to access current research articles on Heliox therapy for pediatric asthma.
