All I've been doing is applying for jobs! But something tells me that's a bad answer

But if it is the truth, that is what I would tell them. I would not feel ashamed or that I needed to tell them anything else.

The truth is always the best answer! I am sure that the hiring manager is aware of how difficult it is for new grads to find jobs right now.

Trust me the managers will expect that. This surplus of new grads is no secret. The trick is, how do you make yourself stand out? Good luck!
